Under the rule of King John, the life of a medieval peasant was incredibly difficult. Many peasants were serfs, bound to the land and required to work for their lord without the freedom to leave. They toiled long hours in agriculture, primarily growing crops for their lord's benefit. King John’s oppressive rule, characterized by heavy taxation and arbitrary justice, alienated the barons and common people alike. In response to John's abuses, a group of rebellious barons formed an alliance, demanding greater rights and limits on the king's power.
