Weems’ Suspicious Return As Wednesday’s Spirit Guide In Season 2, Part 2
Wednesday season 2, part 2’s trailer shockingly confirmed the return of Gwendoline Christie’s Larissa Weems, but her purported role as Wednesday’s new spirit guide is already suspicious. Nevermore Academy’s former principal died in Wednesday season 1’s ending, so her return is a big twist.
With Wednesday in a coma after being thrown through a window by Tyler Galpin’s Hyde in Wednesday season 2, part 1’s ending, her new spirit guide will play an important role. While the kooky supernatural aspects of Wednesday make almost anything possible, Weem’s return in Wednesday season 2, part 2’s trailer is unsettling.
Weems’ Return As Wednesday’s New Spiritual Guide Seems Like A Trick
Wednesday season 2, part 2’s trailer hints at the huge battle that Wednesday will face once she awakens, but it also highlights Weems’ presence as Wednesday’s new spirit guide following the disappearance of Goody Addams. The loss of Wednesday’s powers and the disappearance of Goody were already a big issue in part 1, but Weems’ reappearance only makes that stranger.
The new trailer sees Weems speaking to Wednesday both in the uncanny dream world of Wednesday’s coma and after her return to Nevermore, so it seems she will play an important role. However, the deceased headmistress’ sudden appearance feels like a trick because of their fortuitous and previously unexplored family connection.
In a sneak peek shared by Netflix, Weems reveals that she and Wednesday are 13th cousins twice removed, giving them the family connection that is required for Weems to be her spirit guide. This could be true, but it feels like a far too easy way of bringing the character back.
It is certainly possible that Weems is a ghost haunting Wednesday, but it feels far less likely that she would actually like to help Wednesday. In the clip, Weems argues that she is only there because no one else wanted the job, but that just serves to make her decision to take the role more suspicious.
Wednesday’s New Goody Replacement Could Still Be A Big Surprise
Don’t get me wrong, Gwendoline Christie is always great, and I’m glad to see her back in the series. I’m just not fully convinced that she’s truly there to help. In the brief clips shared so far, she offers more in the way of sarcastic comments than actually useful advice for the titular character.
If it ends up being the case that Weems’ ghostly reappearance is something else, Wednesday leaves open several possibilities for spirit guides that could take Goody Addams’ place. If Wednesday’s aunt Ophelia (who was mentioned several times in season 2, part 1) is dead, she would make a great spirit guide since she also had black tears with her powers.
Alternatively, Wednesday could be related to Lady Gaga’s mysterious Rosaline Rotwood character. Because so little has been shared about Lady Gaga’s character, it is impossible to know whether she is dead or alive, only that Wednesday encounters her, making her a fun, surprising twist in Wednesday season 2’s remaining episodes.
