Wednesday Season 2 Finale & Cliffhanger Ending Explained
Wednesday season 2 has come to a close with its second batch of episodes, and this ending came with the reveal of several big Addams family secrets. Part 1 left off with Wednesday being thrown from a window at Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital after she set the captives of the LOIS program free. Tyler’s violence left the titular Wednesday character in a coma, and part 2 saw her emerge from it.
Wednesday’s first goal after waking up in Wednesday season 2, part 2, was, once again, to keep her premonition of Enid’s death from coming true. With Tyler on the loose, looking for revenge, it seemed only a matter of time before Enid was attacked. What Wednesday didn’t realize was that the woman she had freed from Willow Hill was Francoise Galpin, Tyler’s mother.
With a bit of help from Morticia Addams, Francoise was reunited with her son. Then, to the woman’s own surprise, she was reunited with her brother Isaac Night, who turned out to be Pugsley’s pet zombie, Slurp. The sibling duo quickly jumped back into a dark plan they had attempted during their school days—the one that resulted in Isaac’s own death.
As all this went on, Enid discovered that she was an alpha werewolf, which could prove dangerous if not handled carefully. Additionally, Bianca’s situation with Principal Dort grew more dire when secrets regarding Morning Song came to the surface. Add in Puglsey’s abduction at the hands of Isaac and Francoise, and Wednesday and her family had a whole lot to deal with.
Wednesday and her family’s attempt to save Puglsey served as the climactic high point of Wednesday season 2, part 2. Together, they were able to save the day. Not only did Pugsley make it out alive, but Tyler walked away with his Hyde powers intact, all thanks to Wednesday. Isaac and Francoise were both killed, and Wednesday set out with her Uncle Fester. However, this was an ending steeped in deeper secrets.
Wednesday Season 2’s Ending Reveals The Fate Of Ophelia Frump
In an attempt to make peace with her daughter at the end of Wednesday season 2, part 2, Morticia handed over her sister Ophelia’s journal. As Wednesday leafed through it while riding in Uncle Fester’s sidecar, she suddenly had a vision of a white haired woman locked away in a cell. The following scene quickly confirmed what we all suspected—this is Ophelia Frump.
We didn’t have to wait long to learn where Ophelia was being held captive. One of the final scenes of Wednesday season 2, part 2, saw Hester Frump entering a hidden cell within her home to greet her daughter. All these years, Morticia believed that her sister had disappeared and was likely dead. Never could she have guessed that Ophelia was locked away by their own mother.
Interestingly, it doesn’t look as if Ophelia will be a friend to Wednesday, assuming she escapes her cell in Wednesday season 3. When Hester entered her daughter’s cell, the walls were smeared with the bloody words “Wednesday must die.” Whether this is related to a premonition from Ophelia or a deeper, unseen desire for revenge is still anyone’s guess.
Isaac Night & Francoise Galpin’s Plan In Wednesday Season 2 Explained
Hester Frump isn’t the only member of Wednesday’s family who was keeping secrets. The ending of Wednesday season 2, part 2, also came with the reveal that Morticia and Gomez Addams had a dark history with Isaac and Francoise Night. Back when they were at Nevermore, Gomez and Isaac were roommates and best friends. However, the latter attempted to kill the former to save his sister.
Gomez’s electricity power was crucial in Isaac’s invention, which was meant to strip Francoise of her Hyde powers. However, it would cost Gomez his life. Thirty years before the events of Wednesday, Isaaac had dug a grave for Gomez by the skull tree and planned to dump him there after he exhausted his friend’s power. Of course, after Morticia stopped him, it ended up being Isaac in the grave instead.
After being resurrected by Pugsley in Wednesday season 2, part 1, Isaac got back to his mad plan to save Francoise from her Hyde powers. This time, he would use Pugley as the disposable battery. Tyler helped his mother and uncle get all the pieces of the plan in order, but, at the last minute, the Nights made a change. Francoise wanted Tyler’s Hyde removed, thus saving him instead of herself.
It was a selfless, if not entirely misguided, move on Francoise’s part. Tyler felt betrayed and, after Wednesday freed him, he and his mother engaged in an epic Hyde battle on Nevermore’s balconies. The fight came to an end when Tyler knocked Francoise off the roof’s ledge. Rather than take her son’s claw and risk pulling him down with her, Francoise let herself fall to her death.
As all of this happened, Isaac was left to contend with the Addamses. He had Wednesday by the throat with his powers, but he was ultimately thwarted in Wednesday season 2 by his own hand.
Thing’s Origins & Connection To Isaac Night Explained
The most shocking twist of Wednesday season 2 came with the reveal of the biggest Addams Family secret. For decades, audiences have wondered at the explanation of Thing’s existence, and Netflix’s spinoff show has provided its own version of the answer. Who would have ever guessed that Thing was originally the hand of Tyler’s own uncle?
Back when Isaac Night attempted to drain Gomez of his powers and throw his body away, Morticia jumped to the rescue. She chopped off Isaac’s hand and sabotaged the machine meant to strip Francoise of her power. When the tower exploded, Isaac was killed, but his severed hand was miraculously given life. Thing (an anagram of the surname “Night”) had no idea of his origins, and Morticia and Gomez never told him.
Though Isaac reconnected his hand to regain access to his powers, Thing fought back. Said and done, he tore out Isaac’s clockwork heart, threw away the ring that connected him to his original body, and fully accepted his identity as an Addams.
What Happens To Principal Dort After His Nevermore Plan Is Exposed
Though the Nights served as the central conflict of Wednesday season 2, Principal Dort’s own scheming caused plenty of trouble in the background. As it turns out, Weems’ replacement was actually the true mastermind behind Morning Song, the cult Brianca had been raised in. Gideon was simply the attractive frontman—an actor with no other prospects. Bianca and her mother were Dort’s greatest tools.
Dort’s whole plan revolved around getting Hester Frump to donate as much money as possible to Nevermore, intending to steal it all and walk away an immensely wealthy man. Of course, Wednesday got in the way of that plan. With Agnes’ help, she stole the watch that made Dort impervious to siren song. Then Bianca made her move at the gala, telling Dort to reveal all his secrets to the audience.
After Dort admitted to his massive con and Gideon’s murder, Ajax turned him into stone, and the chandelier (taking influence from The Phantom of the Opera) fell on top of him. Of course, this means that Nevermore has lost yet another principal. Things don’t look so good for the school’s future.
What’s Next For Tyler Galpin In Wednesday?
Tyler has certainly been through a lot in Wednesday season 2. He had only just gotten his mother back, and now she is gone again. It’s pretty tragic, but add in the fact that Tyler is doomed to die now that he has killed his master, and things are looking all the more dire. However, at the end of Wednesday season 2, part 2, Tyler was approached by a potential friend.
We learned earlier in Wednesday that Capri has a history with Hydes, her former lover was one of these monsters, and at the end of part 2, she revealed that he father was too. This makes Capri half werewolf, half Hyde—an intriguing combination. Capri promised Tyler that she had somewhere for him to live the rest of his life surrounded by others just like him.
It’s difficult to say whether Capri can follow through on her promise. Similarly, we have no idea if Tyler has any chance at happiness. Still, the ending of Wednesday hints that there may still be some good in this character. After Wednesday freed him from Isaac’s machine, Tyler might have gained a new outlook on things. Only Wednesday season 3 can tell for certain.
How Enid’s Fate Sets Up Wednesday Season 3
The Addams family’s big secrets are sure to spill over into Wednesday season 3. However, for now, the greatest point of interest going into these next episodes is Enid’s fate. She chose to transform into a wolf under the full moon to save Wednesday, but, as an alpha, this means that Enid may never be able to switch back. All we know is that she is headed north.
The ending of Wednesday season 2 saw Wednesday carry through on her promise to track Enid down before her pack does. Season 3 is sure to see Wednesday reunited with her friend and roommate, but precisely who this character will have become is still anyone’s guess. Surely Wednesday’s unique sort of friendship will be enough to save the day, but we will have to wait to find out.
