Top 3 Superhero Movies to Stream This Weekend: Marvel and DC Classics


Multiple streaming platforms are currently replete with DC and Marvel superhero movies that are well worth binging now that the weekend has arrived. The genre remains one of the most popular in cinema, after all, and although output has slowed compared to previous years, some of its best installments are available to watch at a moment’s notice.

2025 has seen an overall downturn in attendance for newly released superhero movies in theaters compared to previous years, such as the 2010s. Nevertheless, not only have theaters recently aired some of the best superhero movies in recent memory, but these acclaimed movies have started to join many others on various streaming platforms.

From dizzying spectacles depicted in a heartwarming story to thought-provoking documentaries about the pioneers of the now gargantuan superhero genre, the movies listed below are well worth any movie-lover’s time, regardless of their opinions on superhero movies in general.

Needless to say, the sheer number of streamers available can be dizzying. Thankfully, no matter which platform viewers have access to, there’s a decent smattering of recent releases for superhero genre fans, or even more casual viewers, to take advantage of this weekend.

Thunderbolts* (2025)

Thunderbolts* remains one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most ambitious movies, released at a particularly precarious moment for the franchise. It stars a cohort of the MCU’s most obscure characters, a band of down-and-out reformed villains and antiheroes who antithesize more familiar superhero teams like the Avengers or the Justice League.

Nevertheless, the titular team’s relative obscurity lends itself to Thunderbolts* being one of the MCU’s most heartfelt, emotional, and thematically compelling movies, defying the typical Marvel formula. This is further bolstered by the movie’s cast, headed up by Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova) and Lewis Pullman (Bob Reynolds), who deliver some of the MCU’s best performances.

Sadly, despite Thunderbolts* earning widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics, it didn’t fare as well as it should have at the global box office. Upon ending its theatrical run in early August, Thunderbolts* earned just $382 globally, making it the MCU’s fifth-lowest-grossing movie overall.

Nevertheless, this also makes Thunderbolts* particularly worth streaming now that it has landed on Disney+. In addition to being one of the MCU’s most critically acclaimed installments, it is also surprisingly integral to the events of the upcoming climax to the Multiverse Saga, Avengers: Doomsday, where the cast of Thunderbolts* are due to return in important roles.

Blue Beetle (2023)

Blue Beetle is arguably the least well-known movie in DC’s DC Extended Universe, a cinematic franchise that came to a close just months after Blue Beetle was released in August 2023. Like Thunderbolts*, it spotlights a character that casual audiences are far less likely to be familiar with than the likes of DC’s Big Three: Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

It debuts Jaime Reyes, portrayed by Xolo Maridueña, who inadvertently earns the powers and moniker of the Blue Beetle, a DC superhero who fuses with an extraterrestrial scarab that grants him a multi-functional exoskeleton. Reyes is subsequently thrust into an action-packed adventure with his tight-knit family at its core.

Blue Beetle was released at an unfortunate moment when the DCEU was already publicly in its waning days. The implication that Blue Beetle‘s narrative wouldn’t factor into future DC movie installments harmed its performance at the box office, ultimately making it the DCEU’s lowest-grossing film, with a global box office of $131 million.

Nevertheless, like Thunderbolts*, Blue Beetle is one of the DCEU’s most highly rated installments that capably embodies the more exuberant tone of the DCEU’s final movies. It is now available to stream on Amazon Prime and remains one of the most popular DC movies on the platform, making it the perfect addition to a weekend streaming binge.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story (2025)

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is a documentary detailing the life story of Christopher Reeve, the actor whose career came to be defined by his eponymous role in the live-action Superman film franchise of the 1970s and 1980s. It also homes in on the horse-riding accident that paralyzed Reeve and its effects on his life and career.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story‘s narrative alternates between Reeve’s life before and after the accident. Reeve continued to be an influential public figure and advocate for disabled people and stem cell research following his accident, and did not retire from the entertainment industry right up until he died in 2004.
