All sci-fi fans need to watch Pantheon, a true 10/10 TV show with a rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. In recent years, the best animated TV shows have grown in popularity, with more titles than ever in the genre being released on streaming services and network channels. One of the strongest, yet also most underrated, animated shows as of late is Pantheon.
There are plenty of animated sci-fi TV shows, but more often than not, these titles rely on humor to draw in audiences. Pantheon takes a more serious approach in a gripping tale about humanity’s relationship with technology, and following the recent release of season 2, it’s one of the best sci-fi TV shows of the year so far.
Pantheon Is A Fantastic Sci-Fi Show That More People Should Watch

Pantheon deserves its masterpiece status for several reasons. More people need to check out the animated series for its inventive storytelling, intriguing characters, and powerful messaging. Pantheon follows two teenagers and a computer engineer in a society that is dabbling with mind uploading technology, which allows for themes that focus on ethics, grief, love, and family.
Pantheon is rather dark, but this adds layers to the story. The show does a great job of analyzing the possibilities that the Uploaded Intelligence provides, and a lot of questions related to autonomy and morals are raised, but the three main characters’ arcs are the most important thing about Pantheon.
Maddie’s attempts to recover from her father’s death, Caspian’s search for the truth about his identity, and Vinod’s escape from his virtual prison are all enthralling. Despite Pantheon only airing 2 seasons, it’s one of the most societally relevant titles around right now, and a recent TV show that deserves more attention.
Pantheon Is A Reminder Of What Science Fiction Can Be
Uploaded Intelligence in Pantheon
Pantheon uses sci-fi tropes, but it also offers a unique take on the genre, too, and has plenty of interesting concepts. Most of the main narrative is told through the character of Maddie, who discovers that the consciousness of her late father has been added to the Uploaded Intelligence system, which sends her down a conspiracy theory rabbit hole.
It’s fascinating to witness the events of Pantheon from the perspective of the main characters. While the technological side of things is always relevant, it’s refreshing to learn about this fictional world through three ordinary civilians, rather than the enigmatic and powerful leaders. Even though Vinod works for Alliance Telecom, he’s simply a foot soldier who is uploaded against his will.
Pantheon is a great recommendation for Terminator Zero and Arcane fans because of how it explores the relationship between technology and humanity. However, rather than doubling down on the reasons why we should be wary of the rapid developments in technology, Pantheon plays devil’s advocate by showing us the positives of Uploaded Intelligence.
It’s a shame that Pantheon was canceled due to AMC’s initiative to cut costs (via Deadline). However, thanks to the world of streaming, seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch on Netflix. While it seems unlikely Pantheon will return any time soon, considering the cancellation was very recent, perhaps a new influx of viewers will prompt AMC or even Netflix to bring it back.
