14 years later, The Summer I Turned Prettyis finally telling Belly Conklin’s and Conrad Fisher’s missing happily-ever-after story. The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 has been a dramatic, heartbreaking affair, as Belly (Lola Tung) threw herself into her relationship with Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), despite his confessed infidelity and his overwhelming desire for his father’s approval.
In the back of Belly’s mind, though, Conrad (Christopher Briney) was always there, his newly returned presence in her life an unwelcome but unavoidable distraction. In The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 episode 8, “Last Kiss,” their lingering feelings for each other changed everything, causing Jeremiah to call off his and Belly’s country club wedding, after which Belly finally went off to Paris for her semester abroad.
Whereas TSITP seasons 1 and 2 consisted of seven and eight episodes, respectively, season 3 will consist of a whopping 11. While the doomed wedding could have been as good a place to end the show as any, the series will instead have another three hours to explore the consequences of Belly’s and Jeremiah’s breakup. The last few episodes will be so much more than an epilogue.
With 3 Episodes Left, TSITP Is Finally Revealing What Happened Between Belly & Conrad After The Wedding
In Jenny Han’s original The Summer I Turned Pretty novels, the story ends soon after the wedding. Readers are given a brief glimpse of Belly and Conrad’s future together as the book jumps forward in time, but it never reveals the details of what happened in the aftermath of the wedding or how the two lovebirds found their way back to each other.
With three full episodes still to go in this third and final season, we’ll finally get to see these all-important moments. How does Laurel (Jackie Chung) react when the wedding is canceled? When will Steven (Sean Kaufman) discover Jeremiah’s cheating? How do Conrad and Belly reconnect after that heartbreaking goodbye?
The Summer I Turned Pretty S3 Will Likely Have A Few More Time Jumps
The last few episodes of The Summer I Turned Pretty will likely include a few more time jumps. It’s the most logical way to ensure that every important moment of Belly and Conrad’s journey back to each other, as well as the family drama between the Conklins and the Fishers, can be explored properly.
Perhaps there will be a time skip between each remaining installment. Episode 9 might cover Belly’s time in Paris, episode 10 might jump into the future from there, potentially including Conrad and Jeremiah’s journey to fix their relationship, and so on. The show effectively introduced major time jumps between seasons 1 and 2 and seasons 2 and 3. Why not between the show’s final three episodes?
Belly’s time in Paris can’t be a footnote; going to that airport is the first time all season that she’s made a decision that was 100% for herself. Additionally, Conrad and Jeremiah will need time to mend everything that broke between them.
More importantly, Belly and Conrad will need time to heal before they can be together the way they deserve to be. She needs to get over Jeremiah before she can fully commit to Conrad. There can’t be a repeat of what happened when she chose Jeremiah last time.
Thankfully, it looks like we’ll get to see all those moments and more. It’s not just about Belly and Conrad, either. What happens to Steven and Taylor’s (Rain Spencer) relationship, with Steven’s new company, with Laurel and John’s (Colin Ferguson) reconciliation? Rather than these vital changes being glossed over or merely implied in the final stretch of The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, audiences will know exactly what happens next.
