Everyone, sci-fi fans and those curious about the genre, needs to watch or rewatch Westworld to make sure they fully understand the incredible science fiction epic we have on our hands. Based on the Michael Crichton movie from 1973, Westworld was supposed to be HBO’s new hit show.
That was more or less true for the first season, but then the series seemed to lose some momentum, and by the time seasons 3 and 4 came around, there weren’t even enough fans to cause a stir when Westworld was unceremoniously canceled. However, I implore you to give the show another shot, or a first shot.
Westworld Is A Sci-Fi Masterpiece
Westworld is just about everything you can ask for in a science fiction series. The show asks deep philosophical questions using our burgeoning technological advancements to consider what makes a person a person. This question is at the heart of Westworld, and it’s a fascinating one.
The series is set in the near future, where the engineers and scientists of Delos Inc. have managed to create robots so humanlike that they are essentially indistinguishable. These “hosts,” as they’re called, are placed in the Westworld theme park for wealthy visitors to interact with.
Without the strictures of morality or society, visitors do whatever they please with these hosts. Some treat the hosts as you would an animatronic at the fair, others relish indulging in their most base human desires. They’re only hosts, so who cares? The problems arise when these hosts begin to show signs of sentience.
Another Watch Allows Audiences To Fully Understand Westworld

For my money, the only real down season of Westworld was season 2, and seasons 3 and 4 can actually stand up to the first one. It’s just that fans got lost in season 2 and never gave the series another chance. This is a double shame because Westworld season 2 still has some excellent episodes.
Westworld deserves a rewatch because there is so much going on in the series, so much foreshadowing of future events, that you will find the show more rewarding a second time. Even more importantly, the second time through, you’ll have retained some things, so you can sit back and enjoy the story.
That’s the real reason to watch Westworld again: to just enjoy the story. Everything considered, Westworld is not really that complicated. All you need to know is that Android hosts are becoming human. The mysteries revolve around who is secretly a host, but if you just remember that one rule, you’ll have a much better time with the show.
