The Rings Of Power Ahead Of Season 3
If you haven’t yet watched the first two seasons of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, then now is the perfect time.
Rings of Power serves as a prequel story to the central Lord of the Rings series, set thousands of years before Frodo left the Shire with the One Ring. The Prime Video fantasy show revolves predominantly around the Dark Lord Sauron’s rise to power, including the creation of his One Ring. Of course, Rings of Power’s existing two seasons have been massively divisive, but don’t let that stop you—especially now.
Rings Of Power Season 3 Likely Won’t Release Until The End Of 2026
Prime Video has five seasons planned for Rings of Power, with the first two already streaming and the third in the works. Though a lot has happened since the fantasy series premiered in 2022 (16 episodes worth of Middle-earth adventures), it’s far from too late to get caught up. After all, recent information from Prime Video suggests that Rings of Power season 3 won’t arrive until the end of 2026.
Filming is underway for Rings of Power season 3 and is expected to continue throughout the remainder of 2025 (via Collider). The beginning of 2026 will be dedicated to post-production, leaving the end of next year free for the episodes’ premiere. This leaves plenty of time for new viewers to binge all 16 (approximately hour-long) episodes of Rings of Power before the next installment.
While watching Rings of Power now means a year wait for more episodes, it’s a reasonable investment. Prime Video has already set the cap at five seasons for this series, and, though heavily divisive and criticised (more on this later), the streaming service is very likely to continue Rings of Power through to a satisfying close. There’s little chance that you will be left hanging.
Rings Of Power’s Time Jump Makes Now The Perfect Time To Binge The First 2 Seasons
Another tease for Rings of Power season 3 suggests that the premiere episode will pick up after a time jump from the ending of season 2. This will make any wait between bingeing the existing episodes and the start of season 3 feel completely natural. Moreover, this time jump is likely to help Rings of Power get past the most common complaint among its viewership.
Though Rings of Power holds an 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it has been the topic of heavy debate. The fantasy series has made significant changes to canon, especially in the way of J.R.R. Tolkien’s original timeline. The story has been condensed and rushed, but a time jump can help ease that tension.
Of course, the timeline hasn’t been the only aspect of Rings of Power that has been criticized. The series has been accused of having a “woke” agenda, but more valid criticisms come down to the continuity issues between this prequel and The Lord of the Rings. Regardless, this is a fun series that checks all those fantasy-genre boxes, and there’s never been a better time to start watching.
