The Pitt Wins Outstanding Drama Series At 2025 Emmys, Beating Severance

The Pitt beat Severance to win the Emmy Awards’ Outstanding Drama Series trophy. The Pitt is a 2025 medical drama focused on the staff and patients at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. One of the most celebrated shows of the year, The Pitt’s incredible cast and storylines earned it much acclaim.

The Pitt faced stiff competition for Outstanding Drama Series, though. Severance‘s celebrated characters, mind-blowing visuals, and fascinating storylines made it seem likely that the show could win the top Emmy prize for drama series. Ultimately, however, it was the medical drama that took home the much-sought-after trophy.

During the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards, The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series. The medical drama beat fellow nominees Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, Severance, Slow Horses, and The White Lotus.

As a show that both tells a compelling story alongside an arresting visual world, the series has reached a level of acclaim that few other shows have in recent memory. Severance’s season 2 finale also left viewers feeling highly emotional and dying for more.

In most Emmy seasons, Severance would have walked away with the top award for drama series. Yet, The Pitt has managed to take this year’s Outstanding Drama Series Emmy Award, and it is very unlikely that there will be many complaints.

The Pitt focuses on the best and worst of humanity in very real situations, and it has been nearly universally celebrated. Now, The Pitt will also go down in TV history for winning this major award while competing against one of the most acclaimed series of the decade.

Two major Emmy records were broken during the same night. Adolescence’s Owen Cooper winning Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie at 15 years old makes him the youngest male to win an acting Emmy award. Meanwhile, The Studio won 13 awards, breaking the record for the comedy show to win the most Emmys in a single year.

The most joyous moment during the 2025 ceremony had to be when Jeff Hiller won his first Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Hiller’s fellow nominees, Bowen Yang and Michael Urie, seemed absolutely overjoyed to have lost to the Somebody Somewhere actor.

Hiller wasn’t the only notable first-time winner during the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards. In fact, several other artists took home their first Emmy trophy.
