The epic drama series Spartacus will soon be returning to Netflix. Spartacus focuses on the titular character, Thracian Spartacus, who leads a rebellion to free gladiators after being trained by Batiatus. Executive produced by director Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert, and Steven S. DeKnight, the show’s four seasons premiered in 2010 and its finale aired in 2013.
Spartacus starred Andy Whitfield, Lucy Lawless, Manu Bennett, Daniel Feuerriegel, Peter Mensah, Jai Courtney, and Viva Bianca, among others. Thanks to the show’s lasting popularity, Starz is set to air a 10-episode sequel series called Spartacus: House of Ashur, which is believed to be premiering in 2025. Before that, the original series will return to Netflix.
According to What’s On Netflix, all four seasons of Spartacus will be available to stream on Netflix in America beginning on September 22. It will be the first time the popular series will be available to watch on the streaming service in more than five years. Users were previously able to watch the show on Netflix from February 2015 until it departed on February 1, 2020.

In the modern media landscape, it can feel like there are endless streaming services that viewers can subscribe to. Streaming services like Disney+, Prime Video, HBO Max, Paramount+, Crunchyroll, Peacock, and AppleTV+ all have extensive offerings for users. Despite all that variety, Netflix is still one of the most successful streaming services in the world.
Netflix has more than 301 million worldwide users as of September 2025. The streaming service giant’s closest competitor, Disney+, has more than 200 million users as of the same time. Several of the other notable streaming services have far fewer users, like Peacock, which has subscriber numbers exceeding 41 million.
Given Netflix’s ongoing dominance, Spartacus coming to the service is a big deal. Since Spartacus is widely regarded as one of the best historical shows ever, it has the potential to become even more popular now that it is coming back to Netflix. The streaming service’s huge user base means that hundreds of millions of people will soon have access to the show.

A truly captivating show, Spartacus becoming easier to watch for the masses is something that I am always going to celebrate. That said, the fact that the show is coming to Netflix at this moment in the franchise’s history is especially exciting.
After more than a decade since Spartacus’ original TV run ended, the upcoming sequel series is set to make the franchise more relevant than it has been in years. That makes it a perfect time for the original show to suddenly become available to hundreds of millions of Netflix users.
