Strange New Worlds Gets Exciting Season 5 Filming Update
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 5 has received an exciting update from its showrunner. Strange New Worlds is a spinoff of Star Trek: Discovery, and is the 11th Star Trek TV series, set in the decade before Star Trek: The Original Series. The show has proven popular with franchise fans, and currently holds a 94% Rotten Tomatoes rating.
As one of the best Star Trek series of all time, Strange New Worlds has received praise for its cast’s performances, and episodic storytelling. The show has so far run three seasons, with Strange New Worlds season 4 set to premiere in 2026, and now there has been an update on the fifth and final season, which was renewed in June 2025.
In an interview with ScreenRant‘s John Orquiola, Henry Alonso Myers gave an exciting update surrounding production for Strange New Worlds season 5. He revealed that things are moving very quickly, and that the show is due to start shooting in around a week. Check out Myers’ comments below:
How is season five production and filming going? I was very happy to see on Instagram that Jordan Canning is back to direct for season five. How are we looking for production there?
Henry Alonso Myers: I mean, it’s, it’s going very fast. We are right in the middle of it. We’re about to start shooting in a week or so.
What This Means For Strange New Worlds’ Final Run
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 was a big hit, and anticipation for season 4 is bound to be high. The fact that season 5 is moving toward filming as well means that the show will fulfill its goal of five seasons, and season 5 could even be the biggest, best, and most successful season of the show once it airs.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 5 will only run 6 episodes.
The fact that season 5 is set to begin filming also suggests that there were no issues with season 4, and it should be good to premiere as planned. Knowing Strange New Worlds season 5 will be the last also allows Myers to plot well in advance, sync up with season 4, and ensure the show gets a satisfactory ending.
Our Take On Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 5
A fifth and final season is a great way of being able to end a strong show like Strange New Worlds, without the show feeling like it has overstayed its welcome. As long as Myers and his team can tie up all the necessary loose ends that the show has by then, Strange New Worlds should enjoy a fulfilling ending that makes a lot of sense.
The question remains whether there is scope for the show to live beyond five seasons, as well as the future of potential spinoff show Star Trek: Year One. These questions will need to wait until Strange New Worlds has wrapped, but there is reason to believe the show is popular enough that it might be able to continue at some point in the future.
