Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘ final two seasons need to keep two characters apart to preserve their first meeting in Star Trek: The Original Series. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 just ended on Paramount+, with seasons 4 and 5, consisting of 16 episodes, still to come.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 did a significant amount of positioning the future crew of Captain James T. Kirk’s (William Shatner) USS Enterprise towards their ultimate destiny. This includes Scotty (Martin Quinn) becoming an engineer on the Enterprise.
Lt. Commander James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) became an acting starship Captain for the first time in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3. Kirk commanded his future crew members, Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck), Ensign Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Nurse Christiine Chapel (Jess Bush), and Scotty.
However, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 deftly made sure Kirk and another new character who appears in Star Trek: The Original Series didn’t interact, and this has to be the norm in Strange New Worlds seasons 4 and 5.
Kirk & Roger Korby Can’t Meet In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Final 2 Seasons
Lt. Commander James T. Kirk and Dr. Roger Korby (Cillian O’Sullivan) didn’t cross paths in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, and they have to stay apart in Strange New Worlds‘ final two seasons. Korby made four appearances in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, including two episodes Kirk was in, too.
Captain Kirk and Dr. Roger Korby (Michael Strong) don’t canonically meet until Star Trek: The Original Series season 1, episode 7, “What Are Little Girls Made Of.” Regarding Korby, Kirk specifically tells Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), “I’ve always wanted to meet him,” and they discussed how Korby’s work was required reading at Starfleet Academy.
In “What Are Little Girls Made Of?”, Nurse Christine Chapel’s (Majel Barrett Roddenberry) engagement to Roger Korby has long been over, and they haven’t seen each other in years. Kirk and Chapel are trapped by Korby on Exo III, and they discover that not only has Roger been creating androids, but the real Korby replaced himself with a lifelike machine as well.
Captain Kirk Knows The Least Of Star Trek: The Original Series’ Enterprise Crew
One of the interesting things about Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, as it progresses, is how bonded Captain Kirk’s future Starship Enterprise crew already is. Spock, Chapel, Uhura, Scotty, etc. will have spent many years together and shared many voyages and experiences before Kirk takes over the Captain’s chair in 2265.
Captain Kirk meets Dr. Roger Korby for the first time in Star Trek: The Original Series, but Spock has already dealt with Trelane (Rhys Darby) trying to make him marry Chapel instead of Korby in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, episode 2, “Wedding Bell Blues.”
Korby and Chapel are also still an item going into Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4.
Spock and Uhura have socialized with Korby as well as being trapped in an ancient temple on Vadia Nine with Korby in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, episode 5, “Through the Lens of Time.” Korby and Chapel are also still an item going into Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4.
Captain Kirk’s USS Enterprise crew also faced the Gorn numerous times years before Jim battles the Gorn Captain in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1, episode 18, “Arena.”
Paul Wesley is a Special Guest Star in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and it’s unclear how much he will appear in the final two seasons, but Kirk will be crucial since Strange New Worlds ends with him becoming Captain of the Enterprise. All of that must happen without Kirk and Dr. Roger Korby crossing paths.
