Star Trek & LEGO Announce New Crossover Partnership
Star Trek and LEGO announce an exciting new partnership which will see the decades-long sci-fi adventure series cross over with the company. LEGO is no stranger to collaborating with a number of existing entertainment brands, from their iconic Star Wars sets to video game franchises like Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog. But Star Trek has remained untouched.
Now, The LEGO Group and Paramount have confirmed a partnership that will see Star Trek brought into the world of buildable bricks. The partnership will consist of new content between both the sci-fi franchise and the product, with a core focus on imaginative elements that bind the two together. Check out the new teaser for the crossover decision below:
What Star Trek’s LEGO Crossover Means For The Franchise
Star Trek has never crossed over with LEGO before, making this a first time event for both Paramount and the LEGO Group. The closest the franchise has come to similar brick-building sets is their 2012 partnership with Hasbro’s Kre-O, which saw the release of sets inspired by Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek Into Darkness.
However, Kre-O shut down in 2017, leaving the franchise without any similar partnership to any other company. Now, there’s a chance various pieces of the Star Trek timeline are going to be adapted into the form of brick sets. Bringing the series into the fold makes it a perfect addition, given the sci-fi franchises like Star Wars partnered with LEGO.
As for how big their partnership will be, the possibilities are as limitless as the adventures in various Star Trek TV shows. Future projects could pull from The Original Series or The Next Generation, and could even incorporate ideas from newer series, such as Discovery or Strange New Worlds. Whatever comes next, this partnership will no doubt be exceedingly lucrative.
Our Take On Star Trek’s New LEGO Partnership
Star Trek has plenty of potential when it comes to LEGO given the number of major characters and adventures that can be considered for sets and other projects. The classic characters introduced in the 60s and 80s seem like viable candidates for products, something that could be built upon as the long-term partnership continues to evolve over time.
Although it’s unclear if anything as big as LEGO video games will come from this crossover, Star Trek is a perfect addition to the various sets the company has produced for a number of franchises. This could lead to a number of memorable additions to the company’s broader products as familiar-looking sets roll out in the coming months and years.
