Karadec just revealed his own Morgan-style superpower in High Potential, and it arguably provides the best setup for a relationship fans have wanted to see since day one. There oddly haven’t been many great moments between Adam and Gillory in High Potential season 2, but their future romance has now been teased in a manner only this show could accomplish.
The possible romance between Morgan and Karadec was one of the biggest unanswered questions from High Potential season 1, but recent similarities between ABC’s remake and the original French show suggest it may be on its way. And, while they did share a moment in the High Potential season 1 finale, the reveal of Karadec’s superpower is so much better.
High Potential Season 2 Features Karadec Giving An HPI-Style Breakdown Of Morgan’s Face
Morgan’s HPI superpower in High Potential is obviously the main hook of the show, but the ABC series’ appeal goes beyond that. Season 2 demonstrates that when Karadec gives a Morgan-style breakdown of her various facial expressions. It’s an amazing scene for several reasons, but it’s what he specifically notices that makes the scene important on a much larger scale:
“I know your silences, Morgan. Oh, it’s a thing. You get quiet a lot. You got family-drama quiet, a little furrow of the brow, and you start messing with your cuticles like you’re trying to dig up a secret. There’s case-frustration quiet, clenching of the jaw and your eyes start scanning like you’re mentally breaking apart the crime scene. There’s the, uh, pissed-at-me quiet. That’s a classic. It’s a stone-cold stare and a little flare of the nostrils. And then we’ve got this one right here, which is the something-you-want-to-say quiet. Pursing of the lips, distant look.”
She’s so used to being the smartest person in the room that Morgan can’t even accept Karadec’s words as truth without looking in the mirror. Upon realizing that she’s making the exact final face he’s talking about, Morgan admits that Karadec’s called out her feelings about Soto not making captain. That promotion is technically the episode’s B-story, but there’s more.
Aside from the A-story/B-story structure for which TV is known, there’s also the C-story. And that’s where Morgan and Karadec’s future together really gets to shine. The possible romance between Adam and Morgan is exemplified in this scene, as he simultaneously demonstrates knowledge of her face with affection for her own manner of speaking. They’ve rubbed off on each other.
That might sound like a really deep read into a brief moment of a TV show, but Karadec demonstrating HPI-level knowledge of Morgan’s face isn’t the only sign they belong together. Morgan and Karadec have been set up as a couple from the beginning, and this same episode’s reference to the original French series makes that more than abundantly clear.
High Potential Season 2, Episode 4 Strongly Hints At A Future Morgan And Karadec Romance
They’ve Even Bonded Over A Shooting, Of All Things
There’s no denying the romantic tension that’s been simmering between Morgan and Karadec. Season 2, episode 4 pours gasoline on that slow-burning fire. After the “I know your silences” moment, the pair later dive into a deeply personal ethical discussion about Karadec shooting a suspect. And the original French series dictates this as an important stepping stone in their relationship.
In HPI, one moment that brought the characters closer together was Karadec discharging his firearm to protect Morgan. Gillory wasn’t technically involved with the shooting in this episode, yet she accepts Karadec’s willingness to save a victim as a sign that he has her back as well. The ABC series simply has to stretch a bit further to get there.
Morgan knows Karadec well enough to know that, if he’s willing to shoot a man to save one woman, he’d do the same for her. It was an interesting tactic to remove Morgan from the scene, but it does add nuance to the situation. Furthermore, Morgan gets to ask questions that Karadec will ultimately have to answer to Internal Affairs.
This last point is particularly important. In HPI, the Internal Affairs storyline is arguably the best of the series. Karadec originally wound up briefly dating the woman who investigated Morgan, but there seems to be an implication that things will happen much differently this time around. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially after the setup we’ve been given.
High Potential Still Sets Up One Major Obstacle For Morgan And Karadec’s Future
Morgan And Wagner Are Set For A Complicated Relationship
Just as the show teases a future for Morgan and Karadec, it also throws a potential wrench into the works when Wagner joins Morgan in the elevator. Wagner and Gillory clearly have immediate chemistry, which echoes the chemistry between Karadec and the initially anti-Morgane Roxane in original French series HPI.
The spelling “Morgane” is not a typo. Writing about the differences between HPI and High Potential is quite an experience when it comes to several characters’ names.
In any case, the romance between Morgan and Karadec in High Potential has been a matter of some debate. There are fans who would prefer not to see it happen, whereas other High Potential fans see Morgadec as an unquestionable endgame. With Morgan closer to finding Roman than ever, that could go in a number of directions.
Actually, theories about Roman’s fate in High Potential tie pretty directly into this storyline. In HPI, the Internal Affairs storyline kicks off a major revelation about his fate. ABC’s remake is already taking things in another direction, but a possible romance between Morgan and Wagner could easily lead to the latter looking into Roman’s case.
The good news is that Wagner’s role in High Potential doesn’t threaten the romance between Karadec and Morgan. He merely complicates things in a way that could prove very interesting and ultimately satisfying to watch unfold. Until then, it’s fun knowing Karadec will stay abreast of the situation based on nothing but Morgan’s facial expressions.
