SAS: Rogue Heroes – The Perfect WW2 Show For Band of Brothers Fans
Every fan of HBO’s masterful war series Band of Brothers has to watch this incredible modern WWII show that was created by the man behind the Netflix classic Peaky Blinders.
Band of Brothers has stood the test of time for more than a quarter of a century as the definitive series on WWII through the eyes of the victorious Allied Forces. Since Band of Brothers will be leaving Netflix on September 15, 2025, along with its sister series, The Pacific, now is the perfect time to dive into another celebrated war series that earned a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.
SAS: Rogue Heroes Is The Perfect WW2 Show For Band Of Brothers Fans
Every fan of WWII movies and TV shows has to add SAS: Rogue Heroes to their watchlist. The series was developed by Steven Knight based on the 2016 celebrated book of the same name by Ben Macintyre. The series originally premiered on BBC One in 2022 and is currently streaming exclusively on MGM+.
SAS: Rogue Heroes is considered a fairly accurate depiction of the formation of the British Army Special Air Service during World War II. The first season takes place during the Western Desert Campaign, beginning in Cairo, before shifting focus to the European theatre in season 2.
The second season of SAS: Rogue Heroes was released in January 2025 and earned universal praise from critics. With twelve episodes between the first two seasons, all roughly an hour apiece, it can make for the perfect weekend binge-watch for fans of Band of Brothers.
The series stars Connor Swindells (Sex Education) as Lieutenant Colonel David Stirling and Jack O’Connell (Unbroken) as Lieutenant Colonel Paddy Mayne, two real-life members of the British military. Its ensemble cast also includes Alfie Allen (John Wick), Jacob Ifan (The Buccaneers), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Theo Barklem-Biggs (Cherry).
SAS: Rogue Heroes Was Just Renewed For Season 3
The success and critical acclaim of SAS: Rogue Heroes have led to it being renewed for a third season, and rightfully so. As far as modern war series, it belongs at the top of the list in terms of quality, entertainment value, and historical immersion. With Knight at the helm, you can rest assured that the series packs some thrilling and enjoyable punches.
No one is calling SAS: Rogue Heroes the new Band of Brothers, since it does take some creative liberties to maintain its appeal. It’s sort of a blend between a classic war series and the recently released The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, which leans heavily into the action thriller genre. If you’re looking for a wild ride set during WWII, SAS: Rogue Heroes is a safe streaming bet.
