Renewal Status, Cast, Story & Latest News

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for House of Guinness’ season 1 finale!

After its shocking season 1 finale, the biggest question leftover from the thrilling Netflix series’ debut is the status of House of Guinness season 2. All eight episodes of the show, created by Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight, dropped on Netflix on September 25, with House of Guinness season 1’s cliffhanger ending laying the groundwork for a season 2 return.

The historical drama series is inspired by the true story of the Irish Guinness family following the death of patriarch Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness in 1868. In the wake of his sudden death, Benjamin’s four children (Arthur, Anne, Benjamin, and Edward) must assume the responsibilities of the family’s political involvement, brewery operations, philanthropic endeavors, and societal reputation.

Since House of Guinness season 1’s story concludes in 1869, there’s still plenty more for the Steven Knight-created series to explore in future seasons. While Netflix’s decision is still unconfirmed, it’s hard to imagine House of Guinness’ real-life and fictional characters won’t return for season 2.

House Of Guinness Season 2 Latest News

The latest news about House of Guinness season 2 comes from a report by Hello! Magazine the day before the series premiere on Netflix. According to the publication, series creator Steven Knight responded in the affirmative when asked whether House of Guinness season 2 would happen. However, it’s important to note that a second season still hasn’t been confirmed by Netflix.

Immediately following the debut of the series’ first eight episodes, Netflix still hasn’t confirmed House of Guinness’ season 2 renewal. This isn’t too uncommon, however, as it can often take Netflix a few weeks after a hit show’s debut before making an official announcement about whether it will return for more episodes.

For instance, even Wednesday, one of Netflix’s most-watched TV shows, wasn’t renewed for season 2 until over a month after its record-breaking premiere. Consequently, though House of Guinness season 2’s lack of an official confirmation may be disappointing, the streamer’s historic renewal timeline suggests audiences shouldn’t expect an announcement from Netflix until October or November 2025.

That said, House of Guinness season 2 looks extremely likely to happen at Netflix. House of Guinness debuted to strong reviews from critics, falls in line with the streamer’s streak of successful historical drama TV shows like The Crown, Bridgerton, and the BBC-produced Peaky Blinders, and boasts a cast of exciting Hollywood up-and-comers like Louis Partridge, Anthony Boyle, and James Norton.

The deciding factor for House of Guinness season 2’s renewal will likely come down to its viewership numbers and completion rate within the first few weeks of its premiere. It was reported that those factors, when weighing against production budgets, contributed to Netflix’s decision to cancel shows in 2025 like The Waterfront, FUBAR, and The Residence.

House Of Guinness Season 2 Cast

Though there’s still no confirmation for House of Guinness, season 1 doesn’t leave much room to question who would be back for season 2 upon its renewal. Overall, it seems every major character in House of Guinness season 1 would be able to return and maintain a strong role in the family’s story.

That would presumably include actor Louis Partridge as Edward Guinness, Anthony Boyle as Arthur Guinness, Emily Fairn as Anne Guinness, and Fionn O’Shea as Benjamin Guinness, comprising the family’s four main siblings.

From the Guinness family, season 2 is also expected to bring back Danielle Galligan as Arthur’s wife Lady Olivia, Ann Skelly as Edward’s wife Adelaide “Dodo” Guinness, Dervla Kirwan as Aunt Agnes Guinness, Michael Colgan as uncle Henry Grattan, and Game of Thrones’ Jack Gleeson as cousin Byron Hughes.

The presumptive House of Guinness season 2 cast would also almost certainly still include James Norton as Mr. Rafferty, Niamh McCormack as Ellen Cochrane, Seamus O’Hara as Paddy Cochrane, and Michael McElhatton as John Potter. Since Arthur and Edward destroyed the docks and paid off Bonnie Champion to keep quiet, David Wilmot reprising his role is more up in the air.

Since Steven Knight and Netflix’s new Peaky Blinders follow-up concludes season 1 with a cliffhanger ending, there are plenty of storylines already set up for season 2. The biggest of those stories would involve the full campaign and election of Arthur Guinness, with his fate in the series being left unclear after Paddy Cochrane seemingly shot him at a rally.

House of Guinness season 2’s story is also set up to further dive into Lady Olivia and Mr. Rafferty’s plan to secretly carry on their affair and eventually leave the Guinnesses behind. Meanwhile, Edward and Adelaide ended House of Guinness season 1 married, but hinted at a compromise that would allow him to still see the Fenian Ellen Cochrane, whom he truly loves, in season 2.

Season 2 of Netflix’s historical drama would also continue with Byron Hedges’ expansion of Guinness distribution in New York, as well as other parts of America. Though Byron returns to Dublin to attend Arthur’s rally in the season 1 finale, he’ll likely go back to New York to continue the brewery’s operations and secret Fenian Brotherhood deal with Edward’s help throughout season 2.

While Anne’s House of Guinness season 2 story would likely include more plans to engage with the local communities and increase the Guinnesses’ philanthropic endeavors, it’s unclear what shape Benjamin’s subplot would take. While Christine is now his official mistress, Benjamin is still in the Royal Horse Guards in England. However, to keep the siblings together, House of Guinness season 2 could see Benjamin relocate to Dublin.

With only a short period of time covered in House of Guinness season 1, the next outing has numerous events and milestones in the Guinnesses’ real history to draw from. Not to mention the inclusion of real historic moments in Irish politics that concern subplots with the Fenian Brotherhood, Arthur’s position in the House of Commons, and more reforms Edward will enact at the brewery.
