Release, Cast, Story & Latest News
Warning! This article contains major SPOILERS for Alice in Borderland season 3.
Even though Alice in Borderland season 3 walks through Arisu and Usagi’s journey through the final Joker game, it interestingly ends on an ambiguous note and leaves room for season 4.
For a long time, it was hard not to believe that Alice in Borderland season 2 would mark the end of the Japanese Netflix live-action series. Since season 2’s conclusion aligned with that of the original manga, the show had exhausted its source material’s content. Surprisingly, the series still returned with another season, which followed an original narrative.
Alice in Borderland season 3‘s promotional content revealed that it would feature Arisu and Usagi’s final run in the titular Borderlands against an elusive Joker. Even though Arisu and Usagi’s story seems conclusive towards season 3’s ending, a dark closing twist seemingly sets the stage for a potential Alice in Borderland season 4.
Alice In Borderland Season 4 Latest News
Even though Alice in Borderland season 3’s ending leaves enough for another installment, the show’s cast and crew have made no official announcements about its return. Netflix, too, has revealed nothing about the Japanese survival show’s future, even though season 3’s ending hints that it could return with another follow-up.
Given how Alice in Borderland season 3 brings a conclusive and well-rounded closure to Arisu and Usagi’s story, it would not make sense for a new installment to feature them again. Owing to this, if Netflix decides to continue the franchise, the streamer will likely expand its lore with a potential spin-off.
Alice In Borderland Season 4 Is Not Confirmed Yet
No official confirmations surrounding Alice in Borderland‘s renewal beyond season 3 have been made yet. Interestingly, though, just like Squid Game season 3, Alice in Borderland‘s third installment also unfolds in the United States in its closing moments, hinting that its next installment could expand the scope and reach of the central games.
There have been several rumors about Squid Game‘s return on Netflix as a potential American reboot. When it comes to Alice in Borderland, however, little seems to have been revealed about what potentially lies ahead. After its ambiguous season 3 ending, though, it is hard not to believe Netflix will plan something more for the franchise if its third installment performs well.
Speaking about the technical challenges the show’s creators faced during its production, director Shinsuke Sato specifically quoted (via Salon) that “the most challenging was the final game in the series.” The fact that he emphasized how the Joker game was the last in the series suggests he had no plans of expanding it beyond season 3.The director also mentioned how, after season 2 finally revealed the truth about the Borderlands, they had to shift season 3’s central question to: “So we have to return to [Borderland] – but can we come back to the real world?” This shift in framing the narrative around a final question indicates a deliberate move towards ending the series for good.
Alice In Borderland Season 4 Cast Details
After Alice in Borderland season 3’s ending, it is hard to see how the show would continue Arisu and Usagi’s story. However, before the show’s credits start rolling, Japan experiences a series of earthquakes, making Arisu wonder what lies ahead. The imminent world-ending disaster could send Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya’s respective characters back to Borderlands.
Supporting cast members from seasons 1 and 2, including Ayaka Miyoshi (Ann), Aya Asahina (Kuina), Sho Aoyagi (Aguni), Yuri Tsunematsu (Akane), Dori Sakurada (Niragi), and Nijirō Murakami (Chishiya), also briefly show up in season 3. Their arcs, too, seem conclusive, but a direct follow-up could mark their return.

Since season 3’s closing scene unfolds in the United States and zooms in on the name tag worn by an American waitress named Alice, it seems possible that a potential follow-up will take a spin-off route and feature a new set of characters. The new protagonist could be a female character named Alice, who, like many humans, finds herself in the Borderlands after a world-ending disaster.
Alice In Borderland Season 4 Potential Story
Alice in Borderland season 4’s story will largely depend on how Netflix decides to expand the franchise. A direct follow-up could risk diluting Arisu and Usagi’s completed arcs, but it could still find creative ways to send them back to the Borderlands.
After Alice in Borderland season 3’s ending, a spin-off would make more sense for the series. The spin-off could revolve around a new set of characters and walk through their adventures — and the misadventures — in the grim world that exists between life and death. The potential follow-up could also reveal more about Borderlands’ mysterious guard and tell the story of how he ended up in purgatory.
If it is ambitious enough, the potential Alice in Borderland follow-up could even explore what lies behind the void featured in season 3’s finale. The finale also hints at the existence of an overarching god, who could become a key figure in a new installment.
