One Direction Stars Reunite For Netflix Series
Former One Direction members, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson, reunite on screen for a three-part documentary special on Netflix. While the name of the series hasn’t been released yet, the show will be directed by Nicola Marsh, who has worked on other documentaries about young musicians in the past, such as Demi Lovato.
The upcoming Netflix series will see Malik and Tomlinson going on a road trip across the United States. The show will focus on the two reconnecting. And, the two pop stars will reportedly discuss the death of their former bandmate, Liam Payne, who passed away in 2024 at 31 years old. The other two remaining members, Harry Styles and Niall Horan, reportedly won’t join Malik and Tomlinson’s new journey.
What Netflix’s One Direction Series Means
The band’s members were first discovered on the talent competition show, The X Factor. While the five members auditioned separately and made it past the first round, they all failed to move forward after the boot camp phase. However, the judges recognized their potential and assembled them as a band in the competition instead of solo acts. One Direction then skyrocketed to fame shortly after their season of the show.
The upcoming docuseries will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at Malik and Tomlinson’s lives. The show will apparently be able to hear stories about the two artists when the band was at its peak and after their split. Throughout the three episodes, the two will also discuss their current lives and families.
Our Take On Netflix’s One Direction Series
The One Direction show comes after a slew of docuseries on Netflix. Most of the streaming platforms’ recent documentaries have been about true crime and are on the darker side. Producing one featuring what is arguably the most popular boy band in the 2010s will be a refreshing change of pace for Netflix.
While there will still be discussions of death in this show, it would still be less gruesome than several of Netflix’s other docuseries, such as the recent Unknown Number: The High School Catfish. Ultimately, this show will draw in a new audience for the genre by offering something for a younger demographic.
