New Challenges and Exciting Developments
The Day of the Jackal season 2 will have a whole host of new challenges when compared against the wider franchise. After the success of the premiere season of Eddie Redmayne’s scintillating new spy drama, the franchise that started with a novel from 1971 has found new life.
Initially, the book of the same name was adapted to a fairly faithful film adaptation in 1973, before the story was left largely untouched for decades. But as of 2024, the story is now firmly back in the public eye with plans to take it further than any previous version of the master of disguise assassin has been explored.
The Day Of The Jackal Season 1 Had The Original 1973 Movie To Compete With
With the release of The Day of the Jackal season 1, it was clear that the show would face scrutiny from fans of the original book and film, but with just over 50 years separating them, there was enough of a cushion to soften this blow.
The series decided to loosely follow the concept of the original novel, though it updated the time period and added new elements to make the story more contemporary and fresh. And the result was largely received positively. But, when it comes to season 2, there are brand-new challenges that the show will face.
The Day Of The Jackal Season 2 Has To Top A Successful First Season & Rebuild
One of the biggest ways in which The Day of the Jackal season 1 diverged from previous versions was the ending. Namely, the Jackal lives. Meanwhile, Bianca Pullman, the agent that was chasing him around the world, is now lying dead with her former employer cutting all ties to her.
Without Pullman, season 2 will need to rebuild and establish new relationships and rivalries for the Jackal to contend with. In addition, season 1’s success could actually serve to hinder the progress of season 2 as they now need to at least match the excitement and intensity of season 1, if not exceed it.
All the while, the story now has no foundation to fall back on, as they have forged a completely new path for the character. This ultimately means that the future for The Day of the Jackal is brighter than it ever was in previous editions, but also much murkier in terms of what to expect.
Of course, this also provides a degree of excitement for the series as Eddie Redmayne’s character will face new challenges and try to track down his family, while simultaneously avoiding MI6 and tracking down the billionaires who left him short-changed. All things considered, The Day of the Jackal season 2 is bound to be intriguing.
