Netflix’s Two Graves Is A Gripping 3-Episode Thriller In The Vein of Harlan Coben
Harlan Coben’s thriller shows have been huge successes for Netflix since its deal with the author began in 2018, and now the streamer has replicated their tone with the new series Two Graves. Netflix’s new thriller series Two Graves is currently dominating global streaming charts, easily continuing the streamer’s success in the genre.
There are plenty of great recent thriller shows to check out, but Netflix’s new series is the perfect option for fans looking for a quick watch. While Two Graves may not be able to match the popularity of Harlan Coben’s numerous Netflix shows, it does a good job of emulating his style, making it worthwhile for fans of the author and his adaptations.
Netflix’s Two Graves Is Very Reminiscent Of Harlan Coben’s Thriller Stories
Netflix’s new Spanish thriller series Two Graves is not based on one of Harlan Coben’s books, but it does feel reminiscent of the author’s work. The series centers on the disappearance of two teenage girls, Veronica and Marta, and the vengeful quest of Isabel, the grandmother of one girl, to finally get answers years later.
The premise itself already sounds similar to the set-up for some of Coben’s works, but the themes and the tone of the thriller series make it even more familiar. Two Graves features plenty of family drama and secrets long kept hidden from those who needed the truth most.
Beyond that, the three-episode miniseries series spins a dark tale concerning the two 16-year-old girls that disappeared. Their histories highlight the darkness that can lurk inside seemingly innocent people, as does Isabel’s journey into her own darkness. The search for the truth about Veronica and Marta, though, is thoroughly chilling and entertaining.
Two Graves Is One Of Netflix’s Shortest Yet Most Effective Thrillers With Only 3 Episodes
Netflix has released a lot of great thriller series and miniseries recently, and Two Graves is a fitting addition to that list. Like other impressive thrillers, Two Graves is able to build suspense around what really happened the night the girls went missing as well as keep audiences invested in Isabel’s increasingly violent investigation into their disappearance.
The performances in the series are compelling as well, especially given how dark the story gets at times. Two Graves, as its Confucius-inspired name would imply, goes heavy on revenge, despite the dangers of doing so. Shockingly, this approach works for the series, creating a compelling narrative in just three episodes.
Part of what makes Harlan Coben’s works so impactful is their emotional backing. Viewers are able to understand the characters’ motivations thanks to the focus on something in their pasts that they struggle to move beyond. Two Graves sets that up for Isabel and then proceeds to tell her entire story in under three hours.
While Coben’s shows so far have a little more time to come to their conclusions, Two Graves‘ short running time makes it even more snappy. The series is arguably effective precisely because it manages to tell its gripping story so succinctly, making it easy for audiences to binge-watch Two Graves over just a few hours.
