Mötley Crüe and Dolly Parton Join Forces to Unveil ‘Dölly Crüe’
Taylor Swift dominated the news for years when she re-released several albums under the vaunted Taylor’s Versions banner, and Mötley Crüe is following suit with a high-profile new take on their 1985 classic “Home Sweet Home.” Except they’re admittedly driven by different motivations; Swift by a record label dispute, while Mötley Crüe just wanted to record with Dolly Parton.
“Mötley Crüe and Dolly Parton together is the ultimate clickbait,” songwriter and bassist Nikki Sixx told the Los Angeles Times this week, with the new version of “Home Sweet Home” appearing on the band’s upcoming From The Beginning greatest-hits style compilation. The rendition was suitably laid down in Nashville and indeed features Parton belting out the song’s classic chorus.
The 2.0 rendition of “Home Sweet Home” celebrates the 40th anniversary of the song’s original release, with the band jokingly referring to the newly formed outfit as Dölly Crüe (we’re hoping this indicates there are more Nashville-powered collaborations on the horizon).
Mötley Crüe Are Prepping For A Big Las-Vegas Residency Throughout October
A portion of the sales from the band’s Dölly Crüe collaboration will be donated to Covenant House, an organization that provides safe shelter and meals to homeless youths. The band’s From The Beginning album arrives this Friday, 12th September, a day that also marks the commencement of Mötley Crüe’s anticipated 10-show live residency in Las Vegas.
For a while, it looked like things were done and dusted for Mötley Crüe, who called it quits in 2015. The arrival of Netflix biopic The Dirt in 2019 officially reignited interest in the band and all of the infamous debauchery chronicled in the biopic. In November that year, it was announced they’d reunited and were back on the road.
There’s no news yet on whether Dölly Crüe will reunite in Nashville to re-record the band’s entire back catalog of music. Still, we’re hoping and praying that the band (and Dolly Parton) will take further inspiration from Taylor Swift’s unprecedented decision to revisit her back catalog. The band has nine studio albums to potentially rework. ‘Dölly’s Versions’, anybody?
This isn’t the first time Dolly Parton has teamed up with rock artists. In 2023, Parton released Rockstar, her 49th solo studio album and her first rock album ever. The album showcased Parton teaming up with legends Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Richie Sambora, and Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx, to name a few.
Consisting of nine original songs and 21 covers, Rockstar became the country singer’s highest-charting solo album on the Billboard 200, debuting at number three. It also topped Billboard’s Country and Rock charts and went Gold in the US.
