This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

Monster season 4 is set to break a series tradition as filming on the crime anthology series begins, with a returning star set to have a key role. Despite controversy and divided reviews for Monster: The Ed Gein Story, the crime anthology series will be returning for season 4. It was previously confirmed Lizzie Borden would be the next subject.

Now, Netflix has confirmed Monster season 4, which stars Ella Beatty as Lizzie Borden, has begun production in Los Angeles. In addition, Charlie Hunnam will return, playing her father Andrew Borden. According to the announcement, the series will also star Vicky Krieps, Rebecca Hall, Billie Lourd and Jessica Barden, rounding out a talented cast for the show.

Season 4 will break Monster tradition by focusing on the anthology’s first female killer. Borden is best known for being tried and acquitted of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe on August 4, 1892 in Fall River, Massachusetts. The killings and her trial became international news, while no one else was ever tried for her parents’ murders.

While Hunnam returns to play Lizzie’s father, Andrew, after his starring role in Monster: The Ed Gein Story, the other actors will portray important figures in the alleged killer’s life. Vicky Krieps will play Bridget Sullivan, Rebecca Hall will portray Abby Borden, Billie Lourd is Emma Borden, and Jessica Barden is Nance O’Neill. Max Winkler will direct the first episode.

The news comes off the heels of both success and controversy for season 3 of the crime series. While reviews haven’t been kind (the show holds a 20% from critics and 54% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes) the series still managed to become Number 2 on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 English language TV shows just three days after its release.

More to come…
