Martian Manhunter Easter Egg Mentioned In Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 3
The DCU drops a huge hint at a Justice League hero in Peacemaker season 2. As Chris Smith grows comfortable in the alternate universe he found in his pocket dimension, ARGUS and the 11th Street Kids approach a deadly confrontation. Amidst their banter, characters like Rick Flag Jr. and Adrian Chase mention a few references to the wider DC Universe.
Some of Peacemaker season 2 episode 3’s easter eggs include a mention of Suicide Squad‘s Enchantress, the Mighty Crabjoys, and Superman‘s Metropolis incident. Episode 3 also introduces Michael Rooker’s Red St. Wild and brings back Nhut Lee’s Judomaster. Beyond these characters, however, one iconic DC superhero may have been alluded to.
Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 3 Suggests The DCU’s Martians Are Well-Known (And One-Eyed)
In Peacemaker season 2 episode 3, Adrian Chase tells John Economos that “eyes, by definition, come in pairs.” When Economos refutes it, Chase says, “right, I forgot about Martians… one big eye.” While Vigilante could be referring to pop-culture aliens, Peacemaker seasons 1 and 2 have set the precedent of DC characters being namedropped casually. Hence, the existence of real Martians may already be common knowledge in the DCU.
It’s possible that Martian Manhunter is one of the many superheroes who are already established off-screen in the DCU. J’onn J’onzz may have shown his true form at some point, and he may already have revealed his Martian origins and history. Since Vigilante addresses “Martians” in plural, White Martians may also have been spotted on Earth.
Both The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker season 1 deals with extraterrestrial threats, and Superman centers around Lex Luthor’s attempts to kill the Earth’s alien protector. On top of that, Maxwell Lord’s Justice Gang is expanding into something that resembles the Justice League International, which means that the chances of Martian Manhunter becoming the DCU’s next A-list hero to debut are high.
A One-Eyed Martian Manhunter Can Work In The DCU
A one-eyed J’onn J’onzz would be a bold move from DC Studios, but he wouldn’t be too difficult to adapt. Martian Manhunter is a shapeshifter, and he usually adopts a more anthropomorphic appearance to interact with other heroes while still in Martian form. Besides, a DCU J’onn J’onzz would also spend plenty of time posing as a regular human, even if his Martian form was publicly known.
In 2025, Absolute Martian Manhunter has found itself a spot among DC’s best-received comics. With a strong fanbase and a unique concept, Absolute Martian Manhunter could end up influencing the DCU’s Martian Manhunter adaptation. While Absolute Martian Manhunter divides the Martian and the human John Jones into two different people, its colorful tone and one-eyed Martian Manhunter design could be integrated into the DCU.
