Liam Hemsworth As Geralt in Action
A new trailer for The Witcher season 4 shows Liam Hemsworth’s version of Geralt of Rivia in action. The Witcher is a fantasy drama based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s series of books, focusing on a monster hunter named Geralt of Rivia. It has already been confirmed that the series’ upcoming return will be followed by a fifth and final season.
The Witcher’s cast includes many great characters, but Henry Cavill originated the role of Geralt of Rivia before controversially exiting the series. However, the show wasn’t canceled following Cavill’s exit — instead, Hemsworth took over the role, which left questions about whether Geralt will maintain what viewers loved about the TV character.
Now, Netflix has released a new clip from The Witcher season 4 that almost entirely focuses on Hemsworth’s version of Geralt. The clip, which lasts for just over a minute, shows the character fearlessly taking on a wraith. The scene finally gives viewers an idea of what they can expect from the character now that Geralt is embodied by a new actor.
What This Means For The Witcher’s Future
One fascinating aspect of the modern media landscape is the fact that many observers understand the entertainment industry better than ever before. Modern viewers recognize that promotional material is designed to make a movie or TV show look as compelling as possible.
The clip of Hemsworth’s version of Geralt battling a wraith from The Witcher season 4 is more meaningful than most promotional material, though, given the high-profile change behind-the-scenes.
For The Witcher’s future to work, viewers have to buy the idea that Hemsworth’s version of Geralt can battle monsters the same monsters that Cavill did. While the eye is certainly in the beholder, the clip features an extremely credible character that could believably battle monsters. Still, there is one huge question that remains.
Our Take On If Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt Will Be Embraced
No matter how the show’s return ultimately is received, you have to take your hat off to Hemsworth. After Cavill starred in some of the best episodes of The Witcher, Hemsworth agreed to replace him on the show. Not only that, the actor agreed to portray one of The Witcher’s most powerful characters without knowing if he could be formidable enough as Geralt to pull that off.
There is no way to know if Hemsworth’s risky takeover will work out based on the clip alone. The Witcher‘s viewers could easily reject Hemsworth’s version of the character. Still, based on the clip and Hemsworth’s willingness to take such a massive risk, I have faith that he will pull off the nearly impossible.
