LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy

A new Star Wars show is racing up the Disney+ streaming charts following the release of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past. The four new episodes feature brothers Sig (Gaten Matarazzo) and Dev Greebling (Tony Revolori) teaming up to stop the ruthless Solitus (Dan Stevens).

Reviews for Pieces of the Past have been incredibly positive, with the show being praised for its strong themes, thrilling action sequences, stellar animation, fun mashups of familiar characters, and humorous franchise references.

As of September 21, Pieces of the Past is the fourth most-watched show on Disney+’s global streaming charts, and it is the most-watched show in the United States. Alien: Earth, High Potential, and Tempest are the only shows ahead of Pieces of the Past on the global charts.

After debuting on September 19, Pieces of the Past is already a global and domestic streaming hit. Even though it is not canon and is aimed at a younger audience, the newest Star Wars show appears to be resonating with fans of all ages.

With Rebuild the Galaxy releasing in 2024 and Pieces of the Past in 2025, the story could potentially continue with a third installment in 2026. The early streaming success of the second season bodes well for further expansion, especially if the viewership remains high in the coming weeks.

There is still plenty to explore with Sig, Dev, and Jedi Bob (Bobby Moynihan), who are the heart of the series and whose relationships shifted in significant ways during Pieces of the Past. Rebuild the Galaxy‘s other characters have more storytelling potential as well, especially with the endless creative variations that can be explored.

Since Marvel Zombies is releasing on September 24, Pieces of the Past will have competition from another major Disney+ franchise. One advantage that Pieces of the Past has is that it is suitable for all ages, while Marvel Zombies is made for mature audiences, which may allow the Star Wars show to perform better.

Pieces of the Past has something for all Star Wars fans to enjoy, and that widespread appeal is apparent in the show’s immediate streaming success. Seeing the journeys of original characters like Sig, Dev, Jedi Bob, and the villainous Solitus is rewarding, and there are valuable lessons to learn from these flawed and relatable characters.

At the same time, it is fascinating to see Jedi Vader, Pirate Queen Padmé Amidala, Darth Jar Jar Binks, and variations of other familiar characters in LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past. I hope to see more of these characters and other exciting new variations in a potential third season.
