Julia Roberts Confirms Talks Of Sequel Return
Julia Roberts has addressed the possibility of returning for My Best Friend’s Wedding 2. Roberts headlined the 1997 romantic comedy that was a $299 million box office hit, so when it was announced that a My Best Friend’s Wedding sequel was in development, speculation quickly turned to whether or not Roberts would be back for the new movie.
In a new interview with Variety for her upcoming movie After the Hunt, Roberts confirmed that there have been discussions for her to return for the sequel. “They’re talking to me,” Roberts said.
Materialists and Past Lives writer/director Celine Song is set to write the script for My Best Friend’s Wedding 2 (speculative title). Song is not attached to direct the movie at this time. In the interview with Variety, Roberts’ After the Hunt director Luca Guadagnino said he would direct Roberts in the rom-com “in a second.”
My Best Friend’s Wedding saw Roberts star as Julianne Potter, who realizes that she is in love with her long-time friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney) only after he announces that he is engaged to another woman. That leads Julianne to try and break up their wedding. Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett also starred in the movie.
Mulroney was one of the first people to reveal that a My Best Friend’s Wedding sequel was in the pipeline, but at this time it’s unclear if any members of the original cast are going to appear in the new movie.
More to come…
