House of Guinness Filming Locations: Netflix Series’ Sets Revealed

House of Guinness is Netflix’s latest period drama hit, immediately raising questions about where the series was filmed. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight’s latest creation transports subscribers to the complicated political landscape of late 1900s Ireland, surrounding the Guinness family in Dublin. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean it was filmed there.

The Guinness Brewery is one of the most famous locations in Dublin to this day, with many tourists visiting the historic attraction. The series exhibits why the location is more than just a factory for making beer, with the storied family tied directly to the history of both the city and country. After House of Guinness season 1’s ending, it’s fun to learn more!

The Guinness Brewery is undoubtedly the most important location for the series to nail in its historical accuracy. Stanley Dock is a historical location in Liverpool, England, that served as the set location for House of Guinness season 1.

None of the series was filmed in the real Guinness Brewery, or even in the country of Ireland. Liverpool, England, was used for House of Guinness’ Dublin scenes, which may come as a shock given the fairly accurate depiction of the Irish capital.

Iveagh House was the Guinness family’s estate, which was purchased and restructured by Benjamin Guinness in 1962. The building is still standing in Dublin, but it wasn’t used for the TV series. Croxteth Hall, an estate in Liverpool, was used for exterior shots of the Iveagh House, as well as other locations in the TV series.

The interior of the Iveagh House, including the ballroom used for Arthur’s wedding, was constructed at Space Studios, a location in Manchester that’s been used for titles like Peaky Blinders and The Crown. The studio’s large sound stages were used to construct the Guinness family’s luxurious interiors.

Northern Quarter, Manchester

New York City

Similar to how various locations in Liverpool were used to create Dublin, Manchester became the setting for House of Guinness season 1’s New York City scenes. This includes the chase sequence when Byron first arrives, before he meets the Irish and begins establishing the deal on Edward’s behalf.

Gwynedd, Snowdonia

Clooboo

Many of House of Guinness season 1’s scenes depict the small town of Clooboo, which has fallen into difficult times following the famine. Edward Guinness’s philanthropic project was actually filmed in the Snowdonia region of Wales, which is used to bring the Irish countryside to life.

George’s Hall, Liverpool: The site of Dublin’s College Green, where the Fenians held their protests early in the season, was actually George’s Hall in Liverpool.

Broughton Hall, Yorkshire: Broughton Hall was used as the location for Arthur’s country getaway, St Anne’s House.

Penrhyn Castle, Wales: Another lavish Guinness Family residence, the Ashford Estate, was filmed at Penrhyn Castle in Wales.

Manchester University, Manchester: The Imperial House is the location of several important House of Guinness season 1 scenes, including Arthur’s speech in the finale and Edward and Ellen’s first meeting. This was filmed at a Manchester University building.
