Happy’s Place Season 2’s Taxi Reunion Highlights NBC Sitcom’s Strength
42 years after the classic sitcom Taxi ended, Happy’s Place season 2 is now set to reunite two of the hit show’s stars. Happy’s Place is a nostalgic sitcom for numerous reasons, not least the show’s star. Reba McEntire previously appeared in Reba, an early ‘00s hit that remains iconic for a generation of sitcom viewers.
While Reba never earned its star an Emmy, Happy’s Place may fix this oversight when the show returns to screens later in 2025. The series already has an all-star cast of sitcom legends, including Young Sheldon supporting star and McEntire’s real-life partner Rex Linn, McEntire’s former Reba co-star Melissa Peterman, and Melissa & Joey’s Christopher Rich.

Now, the perfect replacement for The Conners is set to delight fans with an episode that reunites two legendary sitcom stars. Taxi stars Christopher Lloyd and Carol Kane are set to cameo together in the same episode of Happy’s Place, 42 years after their first sitcom together. From 1978 until 1982, Kane played Simka Dahblitz-Gravas on Taxi while Lloyd played Reverend Jim Ignatowski.
In Happy’s Place, Lloyd will play a patron of the titular bar named Clive. Clive visits the bar in search of a lost phone, while Kane then turns up as Clive’s wife. While viewers don’t yet know what the relationship between the married couple is like, the pair’s time together in Taxi implies their characters will likely be chaotic and unpredictable.
While this set of cameos is a fun surprise, it is also a reminder of an underlying quality that makes Happy’s Place stand out from its sitcom competition. One reason the NBC sitcom is so successful is that Happy’s Place can easily set up cameos from guest stars thanks to its setting.

Bars are a setting where characters come and go, and a random patron might appear once and never be seen again. Thus, making a bar the backdrop of this sitcom makes it easy to bring in different guest stars without viewers necessarily expecting them to become future series regulars.
It is often hard for sitcoms, especially workplace comedies, to justify big-name cameos. Unless a celebrity is playing themselves, their character usually needs to join the cast temporarily, so their exit only a few episodes later can tend to seem strange.
This is what made Will Ferrell’s stint on The Office a disappointment and what stopped some of the otherwise acclaimed Abbott Elementary’s celebrity cameos from working. Luckily, Happy’s Place doesn’t face this problem as the show’s setting allows for clever cameos like this upcoming Taxi reunion to be facilitated with minimal setup.
