Hamish Linklater On Potential Reunion With Horror Director Mike Flanagan

Midnight Mass star Hamish Linklater has given his views on the possibility of reuniting with iconic horror director Mike Flanagan. Linklater was one of the stars of Flanagan’s Netflix horror miniseries Midnight Mass, the follow-up to his smash-hit Netflix supernatural horror miniseries The Haunting of Hill House, and its successor, The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Midnight Mass follows an isolated fishing community, transformed by the appearance of a charismatic new priest who carries a dark secret. Linklater headed the cast of Midnight Mass in the leading role, alongside several actors who have appeared in multiple Flanagan projects, and Linklater has opened up on the possibility of reuniting with the director on future projects.

In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Joe Deckelmeier for Gen V season 2, Linklater talked about the chances of teaming up with Flanagan again, and revealed that he would love to work with him again. He revealed that he has discussed the possibility, but that Flanagan has been busy with other projects. Check out Linklater’s comments below:

Hamish, last question for you. I’m late to the game on this one, but I just recently saw Midnight Mass, and you are amazing as Father Paul. I loved you in that role, I’m a big fan of Mike Flanagan, and I know Mike likes using a lot of the same actors for future projects. Have you discussed working with him on any future projects?

Hamish Linklater (05:06):

I’ve discussed it, but has he discussed it back to me? No, because look, he’s made a bunch of projects, making projects all the time, not casting old Father Paul much. That’d be nice. He’s the best, he’s absolutely the best. I’d love to work with him again.

Linklater’s comments reveal that he would definitely be interested in teaming up with Flanagan again in the future, and there is a good chance this could happen. Flanagan uses many of the same actors for multiple projects, and, given Linklater’s strong performance in Midnight Mass, there is every chance the two men will work together again.

However, as Linklater also states, a lot of these things depend on schedules falling into place, and Flanagan is currently busy with his Carrie TV adaptation. There is a good chance Linklater becomes involved in whatever the next project might be, but a lot will depend on the future of Gen V, and Linklater’s long-term role in the show.

Our Take On Linklater’s Future Projects

As a hugely talented and versatile actor, Linklater is a performer who is suited to many projects, as evidenced by his roles in The Crazy Ones, Legion, The Big Short, and Manhunt. Flanagan’s projects are well-known for a deep exploration of characters and their interactions, allowing actors like Linklater to shine in the roles.

Once production on Carrie is finished, and Flanagan focuses on new projects, he might call upon actors he has used before, and there’s a chance he and Linklater have kept in contact with this kind of development in mind. Whatever the project, if Linklater can get close to his performance in Midnight Mass, it should be another successful partnership.
