Gilmore Girls Documentary Can Officially Confirm Father Of Rory’s Baby

It’s been nine years since Gilmore Girls’ revival season, A Year in the Life, aired, yet its biggest Rory mystery hasn’t received an official confirmation. With A Year in the Life picking up nearly a decade after Gilmore Girls’ original series finale, the four episodes were able to clear up season 7’s unresolved questions, such as whether Lorelai and Luke ever married or whether Rory would ever reconcile with Logan, Jess, or Dean.

As it turned out, Rory’s romances in A Year in the Life were just as complicated as they were back in Gilmore Girls’ original seven seasons. She was still hooking up with Logan despite her boyfriend and his fiancée, while she and Jess appeared to still have some unresolved feelings for one another. However, the revival did clear up that any new chapter with Dean was out of the question, as he was happily married with kids.

Still, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life ended without answering whether Rory would ultimately choose Logan or Jess. More importantly, however, her romantic experiences over that year culminated in one huge twist for the final scene: Rory was pregnant. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life ended without revealing who the father was, but the franchise now finally has an excuse to confirm the truth.

The Father Of Rory’s Baby Can Finally Be Officially Confirmed In Gilmore Girls’ Anniversary Doc

Ink on Paper Studios officially has a documentary for Gilmore Girls’ 25th anniversary this year in the works, titled Searching For Stars Hollow. The documentary is set to include new and never-before-seen interviews with Gilmore Girls cast members as well as retrospectives from writers, directors, and crew members. Among those with confirmed interviews are actors like Kelly Bishop, Jared Padalecki, Keiko Agena, Sally Struthers, and Chad Michael Murray (via THR).

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life costume supervisor Valerie Campbell revealed on TikTok that the father is Logan Huntzberger.

With so much discussion about the history of the show and its legacy, Gilmore Girls’ new documentary seems like the perfect time to explicitly address who the father of Rory’s baby is. A Year in the Life’s ending set up a few big possibilities, with Logan, her boyfriend Paul, and her “Wookie” one-night stand being the most probable answers.

Back in 2023, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life costume supervisor Valerie Campbell revealed on TikTok that the father is Logan Huntzberger. The crew member elaborated that they were careful to make sure her pregnancy wasn’t showing in the final episode, and if the Wookie had been the father, they would have needed to. Meanwhile, she stated that Rory “definitely” wasn’t sleeping with Paul, leaving only Logan.

Of course, there’s still the slightest possibility for Gilmore Girls to switch up that belated reveal. Though Logan is absolutely the most likely answer, the father could be someone Rory slept with off-screen or unaddressed by the time of her confession to Lorelai.

I don’t doubt that Logan is the father, but it still doesn’t feel like an indisputable confirmation without coming from a more “official” venue like a docuseries or directly from the mouth of the Palladinos, Alexis Bledel, or Lauren Graham.

The Gilmore Girls 25th Anniversary Doc Is Still Missing Some Big Names

Considering how many cast and crew alumni are confirmed for the upcoming Gilmore Girls anniversary documentary, there are enough sources there to help give an officially-sanctioned answer on the mystery surrounding Rory’s baby. However, it should still be noted that Rory actress Alexis Bledel, Lorelai actress Lauren Graham, Logan actor Matt Czuchry, and series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino aren’t among those names.

While it’s still possible that they could join the project later on or be revealed as surprise appearances upon the airing of the documentary, those figures are the ones who would have the most credibility regarding an explicit confirmation about the father of Rory’s baby. Even better, if there isn’t an official, explicit confirmation from them in the documentary, some closure regarding Rory’s baby could potentially still come from another Gilmore Girls revival.
