Gary Oldman Reveals Slow Horses Season 7 Filming Window
Gary Oldman reveals the filming start date for the British spy drama, Slow Horses, after finishing up season 6. The show is based off of a book series titled Slough House, by Mick Herron. The TV adaptation stars Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Sophie Okonedo, Jonathan Pryce, Hugo Weaving, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, and Aimee-Ffion Edwards.
The critically acclaimed show, created by Will Smith, debuted on Apple TV+ in April 2022. It’s about several lackluster agents who get assigned to an M15 Unit led by Jackson Lamb (Oldman). The agents who make up the team are referred to as “Slow Horses” due to their failed missions.
While Slow Horses is currently in the middle of airing its fifth season, the show has already wrapped filming season 6. In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley for season 5’s release, Oldman reveals that shooting for season 7 isn’t too far away. Check out his comments below:
This was Will’s last show, season 5, and we had a whole new team come in. We’ve already shot season 6, it’s in the can, and at the end of October, we start season 7, and that’s a new team.
What Slow Horse’s Season 7 Filming Date Means
Oldman revealed that season 7 of Slow Horse will begin filming at the end of October, even though filming for season 6 ended not too long ago. This implies that Apple TV+ is very confident in the show’s performance and likely had plans for it mapped out before it was renewed in July 2025.
While not unheard of, filming two more seasons while the current one hasn’t even fully aired yet, could be considered a little odd when compared to how most shows operate. However, taking into consideration that each season is based off of one novel of the franchise, it would make it a lot easier for the creative team to work very quickly.
Our Take On Slow Horse’s Season 7 Filming Date
Season 7 of Slow Horses getting picked up so quickly isn’t a strange move from Apple TV because its renewal process is different from most. Studies have also shown that it is far more likely to renew its series than several of its other competitors, such as Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. Many believe that this is because Apple cares more about the quality of its content than its numbers.
If Apple has already committed to making Slow Horses a long-running series (which it clearly already has), then it would make sense for them to lock in multiple seasons at once instead of waiting to see if its performance would justify another. The streaming platform also appears to value its subscribers over ratings. So, having a fully completed show instead of canceling too early would ensure that its customers won’t be left hanging.
