In confirming the major Leone tragedy, Fire Country season 4’s trailer brought back one terrible trend from three years ago. After Fire Country season 3’s cliffhanger ending left Sharon, Vince, and Walter Leone in mortal danger due to the Zabel Ridge fire engulfing the Buena Vista center they were in, any death would have been disastrous for Bode and Edgewater.
The report of Billy Burke’s exit ahead of Fire Country season 4, along with Stephanie Arcila’s, nevertheless cemented Vince’s death as the most probable. Now that it’s confirmed, Fire Country season 4’s trailer offered a glimpse of what to expect in the Leone tragedy aftermath, which includes the return of an awful trend in the form of Bode’s worst trait.

Fire Country season 4’s trailer shows how seriously Bode aims to devote himself to protecting his father’s legacy. The part of his speech at the funeral emphasizes that by showing Bode’s determination through his promise to spend the rest of his career to protect his “father’s town, station, and mission.” Bode’s attitude is nonetheless much different from Sharon’s utter despair.
If Sharon’s reaction to losing Vince demonstrates how lost she feels as a result, Bode’s approach looks like one of action, where, instead of facing his feelings, he prefers to take up the mantle of his father as a firefighter and leader of Edgewater’s community. However, his decision stirs up his worst qualities as he impulsively and publicly opposes Jake.
The decision to trap Bode in the engine during the call at the Buena Vista center evidently influenced Bode’s resentment towards him, and Jake’s willingness to go after Station 42’s battalion chief position isn’t met with reason from Bode, as his “It’s my birthright and I’m coming for it” proves. The exchange inevitably spells the return of Bode’s worst behavior.

Bode spent the best part of Fire Country season 1 challenging the authority of Manny and Vince, generally going against everyone from his past life while also believing he was in the right. His impulsive arrogance led him to save patients who would have otherwise perished, but it also endangered himself, antagonizing all those who tried to reason with him.
Bode’s belief that he has any chance to become battalion chief during his first year as a firefighter says everything about his attitude after the tragedy, showing how easy it is for him to go back to his former arrogant and impulsive approach. This will undoubtedly play a hand in Fire Country season 4’s resurgence of Bode and Jake’s rivalry.

Bode and Jake’s relationship was fraught when Bode returned to Edgewater, as the Leone scion blamed Jake for Riley’s death, while Jake faulted Bode for leaving his family. Between their past problems and finding themselves in the middle of a love triangle when Gabriela left Jake, having feelings for Bode, Jake and Bode’s bond progressed very little as a result.
Fire Country season 3 finally showed Bode and Jake being there for each other as friends, with Jake even understanding how Bode’s different approach could be an asset in the field. However, Vince’s death is poised to set off another rift between Bode and Jake in Fire Country season 4, seemingly bringing back their rivalry in the Leone tragedy aftermath.
