Female Artists Pitted Against Each Other

The music business is ultra competitive. That’s no shocker, but what may be surprising to some is how often fans constantly pit artists against each other. Pop singer Zara Larsson recently addressed it after people put her in direct competition with Tate McRae, who she opened for on her Miss Possessive Tour.
Larsson thanked the So Close to What singer on Instagram before calling out the people who keep comparing them. Larssson was the opening act for the tour’s North American dates, which just wrapped up.
“I’m speechless at the amount of praise I’ve been getting over these past few weeks from your wonderful fans and online,” wrote Larsson. “With that being said, it’s been strange seeing some people putting us against each other when we’re just two pop girls who love and support each other backstage!”
Two female rappers have also been pitted against each other this week, Cardi B and Nicki Minaj, after they argued with each other on social media over album sales.
Cardi B & Nicki Minaj Lash Out At Each Other
Nicki and Cardi have been beefing with each other since 2017 and added yet another chapter to their saga yesterday, Monday, September 29. Nicki questioned the success of Cardi’s new album, Am I The Drama, selling 200,000 equivalent units in its first week, which made it go number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
Nicki then brought up the album’s promotional price of $4.99 to question the sales numbers and insulted Cardi’s verse on her song “Magnet,” as well as her looks.
“A-B-C-D-E-F-G / these b—–s can’t f–k with me,” Nicki tweeted. “Fallin off the charts wit a big bellyyyy …Barefoot, still smellyyyyy / Still. You. Could. Not. outsell. meeeeee.”
Cardi quickly responded, writing, “The power I have.. make these b—–s come out of rehab every time.”
The Bronx rapper then told Nicki that she ought to compare herself to artists from her era, like Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Drake, and that she has smaller sales numbers than those acts.
The women sent more shots at each other after that, and their fans also began bickering.
The Fans’ Arguments
“Nicki always feels threatened & acts as loser whenever a female rapper sells more or gets more attention,” tweeted one of Cardi’s fans. “Nicki should have guided these new female rappers instead of being a bitter hag & [bullying] them.”
“Girl you put yourself up against Nicki,” one of Nicki’s fans chimed in. “You lost now, you’re crying, trying be the victim. You’re just mad she didn’t give you attention last week, you needed her bad.”
As for Larsson’s message, McRae hasn’t responded yet, but their fans continue to argue with each other online.
