Fans Of Netflix’s Political Thriller Hostage Must Watch Scandal
Netflix’s new political thriller Hostage has become a streaming success, but fans of the genre should check out this seven-season series that is even better. Despite earning a solid Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score, Hostage has proven divisive with audiences thanks to its overdramatized plot.
While the series may not be entirely realistic, the show is enthralling, keeping audiences hooked through Hostage‘s satisfying ending. Ultimately, for audiences who enjoy dramatic thriller shows, Hostage can be a fun series to simply sit back and enjoy. The same can be said of this lovable, acclaimed drama.
Fans Of Hostage Need To Watch Scandal
The kidnapping of Dr. Alex Anderson and the uneasy pairing of Prime Minister Abigail Dalton and French President Vivienne Toussaint starts Hostage off on a strong note, and Shonda Rhimes’ Scandal has a premise that’s just as intriguing. The series follows Olivia Pope, a Washington DC-based fixer who solves seemingly impossible political problems.
Over the course of the series, Olivia and her team take on numerous clients, with problems covering everything from kidnapping to murder investigations. While many of the episodes center on their own one-off plots, each season also has an overarching story, often relating to Olivia’s personal life.
Much like Hostage‘s tense kidnapping narrative, Scandal‘s larger stories often center on political conspiracies or enemies intent on harming government officials, particularly the president. The series has no shortage of high-stakes problems for Olivia to fix, and she herself is an imperfect character who causes many of those political problems.
Scandal‘s political cases are not necessarily the most realistic, but there is no doubt that they are entertaining. For audiences who enjoyed the unexpected, dramatic twists in Hostage, Scandal is the perfect series to find more political intrigue. With seven seasons and 124 episodes, there is plenty to enjoy.
Netflix’s Series Has A Lot In Common With Shonda Rhimes’ Political Thriller
Based on their political storylines alone, there is already a strong connection between Hostage and Scandal. However, their similarity is actually enhanced through their shared themes as well. Both shows feature strong, though notably imperfect, female leads backed by impressive performances.
Likewise, both shows have an emphasis on fun, easy-to-watch narratives that aren’t necessarily the most realistic. Scandal is a compulsive watch, and its pacing only gets faster as the seasons carry on, making it impossible for audiences to look away.
Much in the same way that Hostage‘s drama benefits from its characters’ checkered pasts, Scandal‘s main characters have plenty of secrets of their own that only slowly unfold. While some of the biggest scandals only come to light in later episodes, Scandal is immediately compelling and it only gets better.
