Earth Actor Discusses Noah Hawley’s Xenomorph
Alien: Earth is a groundbreaking installment to the massive franchise, and Noah Hawley’s rendition of the titular creature likely contributed to the series’ success. Now, Xenomorph actor Cameron Brown reveals how Hawley’s horrifying extraterrestrial beings came to fruition.
In an interview with Variety, Brown, who portrayed the Xenomorphs in Alien: Earth, spoke about the process of getting into character. He also revealed several fascinating facts about the iconic costume designed by a New Zealand special effects company, Wētā Workshop.
Brown explained that Hawley and Wētā Workshop did give him many helpful notes. However, most of his inspiration came from the Xenomorphs themselves.
A lot of my cues came through the creature itself. As different elements of the suit started coming together, they were going to inform how this creature was going to move and interact with the world.
The actor added that after he was cast, he watched the first three Alien movies to study their movements. He wanted to make sure that he did the creatures justice and met the high expectations that fans of the franchise had. He revealed that, in addition to the original movies, he also watched Alien vs. Predator.
After being cast, I went back and watched the first three movies in particular. I was looking for movement cues in those three to try and accurately continue on the legacy of the performers who had come before me. I also watched “Alien vs. Predator” a few times. There’s really nice movements that Tom [Woodruff Jr.] and the other actors in there did, which helped influence some of the choices that I made.
What Alien: Earth’s Dedicated Actors Mean For The Franchise
Brown went above and beyond for his role as one of the most integral characters in Alien: Earth. Aside from studying the movies, the actor also took inspiration from other media. He told Variety that I also googled images from comics and even fan art of the Xenomorphs to make sure he understood every single aspect of the creature.
Brown’s dedication proves that not only did Alien: Earth have a huge audience of both new and old fans, but it also hired actors who love the franchise just as much. Brown isn’t the only member of the cast who admitted to loving the franchise. Boy Kavalier actor, Samuel Blenkin, revealed in several interviews that he was a huge fan.
Hawley casting people who are passionate about the franchise was a smart move, be it intentional or not. Having actors on set who love the world of Alien ensures that the show isn’t just another job for them.
