Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 – Joey Quinn Likely To Replace Angel Batista

This article contains major SPOILERS for Dexter: Resurrection’s season 1 finale!With Batista having tragically died in Dexter: Resurrection season 1’s penultimate episode, the finale has already teased who will take over his role in season 2. After making brief cameos in Dexter: New Blood, David Zara’s’ Angel Batista returned as a main character in Resurrection. This time, however, he set his sights on exposing Dexter as the Bay Harbor Butcher.
As the franchise has reiterated since Dexter season 1, that effort never ends well – especially for Dexter’s former Miami Metro colleagues. Indeed, Batista’s Resurrection role repeated Doakes’ efforts in early Dexter seasons and LaGuerta’s mission for justice in later outings, with both also having ended up dead. However, Dexter was never the one who directly killed them.
Still, it isn’t Dexter without someone discovering he’s the Bay Harbor Butcher and covertly working to prove his guilt. As such, it’s only right that Dexter: Resurrection season 2 would find another of Dexter’s loved ones to continue Batista’s work. After some brief cameos ahead of Resurrection season 1’s ending, the sequel already has the perfect answer.
Joey Quinn Will Likely Take Over Batista’s Work Hunting Dexter In Resurrection Season 2
After appearing in or being directly referenced in three of Dexter: Resurrection’s 10 episodes, Desmond Harrington’s Joey Quinn is ripe for an upgraded role in season 2. Following Angel Batista’s death, Quinn is now the longest-serving Miami Metro detective across Dexter, which makes him the most likely name to reunite with and go after Dexter Morgan next.
In Resurrection episode 8, Quinn even spoke on the phone with Detective Wallace about Batista, so she may contact him and Miami Metro’s surviving characters to help investigate matters of his murder in season 2. Additionally, with Batista having spent several episodes trying to convince Wallace and Oliva that Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher, she may see Quinn as another expert opinion on whether that could be the truth.
Quinn’s return is also set up by Dexter seeing his call on Batista’s phone and acknowledging how much he misses him in Resurrection’s season 1 finale. Considering how horrible Dexter’s last reunion with an old Miami Metro colleague went, Quinn tracking him down wouldn’t bode well for either original character. Not to mention, Quinn has been suspicious of Dexter since they first met.
Dexter: Resurrection Doesn’t Have Many OG Characters Left To Hunt Down Dexter
At any point in the series, someone close to Dexter must be suspicious of him being a killer. However, with all other major original Dexter season 1 characters now dead, that leaves Masuka (who was more of a recurring figure in first season) and Quinn.
Masuka isn’t a detective, so unless season 2 gives them a “buddy cop” detective-forensic scientist arc, Quinn is really the only major original character who could take on that role. However, considering Quinn and Masuka are all that really remains from that era, Dexter: Resurrection couldn’t afford to kill them off if they did try to track him down. As such, the series might hold off on sending Quinn after Dexter so soon.
