The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 has cast a Westworld star in a major role as filming for the next chapter of Maggie and Negan’s journey continues. Dead City season 3 is currently in production in Massachusetts, where the show began filming in early September. The story will follow Maggie and Negan in the aftermath of season 2’s tragedies.
Now, according to Deadline, actor Jimmi Simpson will be joining The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 in a starring role. Simpson will be portraying Dillard, with details about the survivor currently under wraps. He will star alongside Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, though it’s unclear how important his character will be to Maggie and Negan’s story.
What Simpson Joining Dead City Season 3 Means For The Walking Dead Spinoff
Simpson is best known for playing William on the cast of Westworld, being a series regular for season 1 of the sci-fi show. Since then, he’s gone on to portray characters like James Walton in Black Mirror‘s USS Callister episodes, and Ryan Holder in Apple TV+’s sci-fi show Dark Matter. His talent makes him a powerhouse addition to Dead City‘s cast.
Also joining the cast of Dead City season 3 will be Aimee Garcia as Renata, another series regular and a leader within New York City. The pair onscreen aren’t the only newcomers this season either: The Walking Dead writer Seth Hoffman will be taking over as showrunner this time around too. It appears big changes are transpiring across post-apocalyptic Manhattan.
As for Simpson’s Dillard, there’s no word yet on how he’ll fit into the story. Season 3 picks up after the end of Dead City season 2, with Maggie and Negan trying to form their own community amid the chaos of the city. This will come with threats on all sides, from the Dama to the New Babylon Federation.
