Dark Wolf Tops Global Charts On Prime Video

Prime Video has found a string of successes in following the template established by Reacher. The streamer had ventured into action thrillers, with Jack Ryan likely serving as the most prominent example. But it was Reacher, led by breakout star Alan Ritchson, that might have done the most to encourage executives to lean into dramas about heroes with guns.

Reacher has been a smashing success. Its second season, released in late 2023, became Prime Video’s most-watched title in mere days. In its wake, subscribers have seen several other action series that have attempted to walk along that path. In the past few months alone, there’s been Jensen Ackles’ Countdown, Daniel Dae Kim’s Butterfly, and a new spinoff that’s making waves.

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf focuses on Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch), tracking his journey from the Navy SEALs to the more hidden side of CIA Special Operations, diving into the costs of war. The series, which takes place before the events of The Terminal List, features Chris Pratt reprising his role as James Reece.

According to FlixPatrol, which tracks streaming performance, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is the #1 show on Prime Video across the globe. That includes the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and India. It beats Countdown, Butterfly, and the original Terminal List series, which is returning for season 2.

Co-created by The Terminal List author Jack Carr and David DiGilio, Dark Wolf holds a 71% based on 14 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score is an improvement, coming in at 83%, as of this writing.

Our Take On Dark Wolf’s Early Success Compared To Countdown

Countdown has largely been a weekly release after its first three episodes were released in a binge drop. The final episode of season 1 will premiere on September 3, with no word yet on season 2. It is still a very strong performer on Prime Video’s charts, coming in as part of the Top 3 or Top 5 on most weeks. On the whole, it’s been one of the buzziest streaming shows of the summer.

It makes sense that The Terminal List: Dark Wolf would take the top spot. It just debuted, so there is a lot of initial curiosity. It also released its three episodes weekly, with the remaining four dropping weekly. It will be worth tracking how all these new shows stack up to Reacher, soon debuting season 4, in the long view.
