Dark Wolf Reveals Ben Edwards’ Discharge From Navy SEALs

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf has solved a critical, lingering mystery left behind by the original show. The Terminal List season 1’s ending saw the death of fan-favorite character Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch) after a last-minute reveal regarding his involvement in the show’s central conspiracy.

Now, the prequel series examines his story, set years in the past and building up toward the events of the flagship show. Aside from being a worthy follow-up in its own right and an enjoyable gap while waiting for The Terminal List season 2, this new show provides some additional context to the first season’s characters.

We knew from The Terminal List season 1 that Ben Edwards was previously a Navy SEAL and James Reece’s BUD/S classmate, but we didn’t exactly know why he became CIA. Given that the series is particularly focused on the camaraderie shared between SEALs, this seems like an integral question.

The first episode of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf shows the instance that led to Edwards’ discharge from the SEALs. After learning that one of their primary targets, Al-Jabouri, was a protected informant, Edwards, Reece, and Lieutenant Raife Hastings (Tom Hopper) defied orders and went after him.

Although they had rescued Zaynab, the daughter of Ben’s friend, Al-Jabouri continued to make threats that he would seek vengeance. Pushed over the edge, Ben Edwards shot the man, executing him on the spot. He and Hastings were discharged after the incident.

Why Ben Edwards’ Backstory Was Left Out Of Terminal List Season 1

While Ben Edwards’ backstory seems like it might have been important to The Terminal List season 1, it makes sense why they didn’t do it. Not only is The Terminal List focused almost entirely on James Reece and his plight, but revealing too much about Edwards might have given away the final twist.

We get the idea that Ben Edwards is something of a rogue in The Terminal List, and that while he might be dedicated to his friends, he’s got some baggage of his own. However, he’s still chummy enough that audiences might not anticipate his role in the pharmaceutical scheme that claimed the lives of Reece’s family.

The purpose of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is to, now, go back and examine Ben Edwards, demonstrating why he might have done what he did. The last-minute reveal in season 1 left audiences divided on his fate, and this new series should hopefully provide a glimpse at the psychology that made those choices.
