Cipher’s Worse Than Expected Plan Revealed
Gen V season 2 maintained an air of mystery surrounding Cipher’s overarching plan throughout its initial episodes, but it has finally disclosed what he wants. As Gen V season 2’s episode 6 reveals, Cipher’s motives are far darker than initially expected.
Dean Shetty was introduced as Gen V season 1’s primary villain, but by the time the installment concluded, she ended up dead. The Boys’ spin-off series then introduced Hamish Linklater’s Cipher, who not only replaced Shetty but seemed far more calculated and cryptic with what he wanted to achieve at Godolkin.
The ambiguity surrounding his motives prompted many viewers to come up with many intriguing theories after Gen V season 2’s early episodes. After the show’s episode 6, it is evident that while some Cipher theories from Gen V season 2 make sense, others completely miss the mark.
Cipher’s Plan For Godolkin University Explained
Towards the end of Gen V season 2’s episode 6, Cipher finally reveals that he plans to wipe out 75% of the weakest supes at God U. Dean Shetty was a horrifying villain in Gen V season 1 because she conducted ruthless experiments on supes in The Woods and exposed them to a deadly virus.
Her long-term goal was to eventually eliminate all supes from the planet using the virus. When Cipher joined God U as her replacement, it seemed like he was her complete opposite and genuinely cared about the students at the central supe university. However, his plan reveals he is no different.
Although he does not want to kill all supes in the world, he hopes to see a world where only some of the most powerful supes exist. According to this plan, the remaining relatively weaker supes will be deemed expendable and eradicated to “purify” the next generation.
Cipher’s Goal In Gen V Season 2 Is So Much Worse Than Anyone Expected
Considering how Homelander has ruthlessly killed many supes, he can come off as a hypocrite when he preaches about protecting his kind. However, as Gen V season 1’s ending suggests, his supe-supremacist beliefs always lead him to believe that supes, regardless of their power scale, are superior to humans.
Owing to this, Homelander seems to envision a world where all supes unite and live among humans as superior beings. Cipher, on the other hand, neither cares about humans nor the relatively weaker supes. As his plan suggests, he seemingly thinks that supes with useless mutations or low Compound V potential are no less insignificant than humans.
Therefore, in more ways than one, Cipher is even worse than Homelander. Homelander, too, may not really care about the well-being of supes. However, he is at least not planning a mass supe genocide. The fact that Cipher’s plan goes completely against what Homelander would want explains why he does not want Homelander or Vought to know what he is trying to do at God U.
How Cipher’s Interest In Marie Connects To His Goal Of Culling Supes
When Cipher talks to Polarity in Gen V season 2 episode 6’s ending moments, he calls Marie “the answer.” He even tells Polarity that Marie can help him treat his seizures, which would allow him to overcome his shortcomings as a supe. Given how he wants to kill 75% supes, the fact that he wants to heal supes and make them stronger through Marie seems a little hypocritical.
From all the little hints Gen V has dropped so far, Cipher fears that if the human population unites, they would easily outnumber the supes and overpower them. Owing to this, he only wants to create a few god-level supes who would rule the world and force humans to submit rather than demand equality.
Through Marie’s blood-controlling abilities, he firmly believes that he can cure all the weaknesses that hold some of the strongest supes back from reaching their full potential. His cold, utilitarian logic also explains why Emma and Polarity found Nazi memorabilia in his office.
There’s Still 1 Question The Boys Spinoff Needs To Answer About Its New Villain
Gen V season 2 has still not revealed who the burnt man in Cipher’s chamber is, but the show’s characters are already starting to speculate that he is Thomas Godolkin. The most common theory is that the man, Thomas Godolkin, is actually the one controlling Cipher through his mind-controlling abilities.
Gen V season 2 is scheduled to have a total of 8 episodes. While the 7th one will premiere on October 15, 2025, the finale will land on Prime Video on October 22, 2025.
Cipher, as we physically see him, is nothing but a meat puppet for Godolkin, who is using his body because his own body is burnt and incapacitated. Cipher was likely a human before Godolking took control of his body, which would explain why Marie finds no Compound V in his blood.
Since Cipher, or rather Thomas Godolkin, believes that Marie can cure supes, he also hopes that she will be able to cure him by healing his damaged body and restoring his mobility. For now, though, all of these are mere theories until Gen V season 2 confirms what Cipher really wants.
