Blood Of My Blood Stars React To Shocking Death

Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1’s gruesome ending has both its audience and cast stunned. The prequel series to Outlander stars Harriet Slater (Ellen MacKenzie), Jamie Roy (Brian Fraser), Hermione Corfield (Julia Moriston), Jeremy Irvine (Henry Beauchamp), and Jhon Lumsden (Malcolm Grant).

The series features a love triangle between Malcolm, Ellen, and Brian. Ellen was betrothed to Malcolm (through an arranged marriage). However, the person who she actually wanted to be with was Brian, so the two of them planned to run off together. And, in Outlander: Blood of My Blood’s season finale, viewers see Brian murdering Malcolm in the spur of the moment.

As the couple were about to leave, they were stopped by Malcolm. Angered by her betrayal, he attacks Brian who stabbed Malcolm in order to save himself, leading to his demise.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Roy revealed that, originally, the scene wasn’t supposed to play out that way. It was allegedly a last-minute change in plans that the actor learned about while he was at a pub. “I was at a pub one night, about four pints deep. And Michael Wilson, our producer, called me, and he was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to tell you what happens in the finale. You ready?’ You are going to kill Malcolm Grant.’ And I was like, ‘Woah.’“

Slater further elaborated, stating that the death wasn’t there during the initial read-through. She also expressed her shock when she learned of the new development. “Then, there was a rewrite and suddenly Malcolm died. It was a huge shock to everyone, especially coming from Brian, who’s the most gentle, loving guy.“

Roy adds that his character didn’t want to kill Malcolm. He said that both Brian and Ellen gave him multiple opportunities to back off. Unfortunately, they couldn’t convince him to calm down and his hand was forced when he got attacked.

The actors explained how their characters’ worlds would be turned upside down after the events of Outlander: Blood of My Blood’s finale. While the two were going to run away together, regardless of the circumstances, the accidental murder would have severe consequences.
