Billy The Kid Series Climbs Streaming Charts Ahead Of Final Season

Billy the Kid is climbing the streaming charts ahead of its final season. The story of outlaw William H. Bonney has been told numerous times on the big and small screens, as well as in books, plays and movies.

The most recent retelling is a series on MGM+, which debuted in 2022 and stars Tom Blyth, Eileen O’Higgins, Daniel Webber and Alex Roe.

Less than two years after Blyth’s Billy the Kid premiered, his celebrity status surged after starring in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes as a young Coriolanus Snow. Blyth continued filming his MGM+ Western series, with Billy the Kid season 3, which premieres September 28, marking the final chapter of the story.

With only a few weeks to go until Billy the Kid‘s final season begins airing, the series is surging up the MGM+ streaming chart and has entered the Top 10. As of September 9. 2025, Billy the Kid is sitting at No. 8.

A Working Man, The Institute, Let the Devil In, From, Godfather of Harlem and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back are some of the projects ahead of Billy the Kid on the chart. Rounding out the Top 10 below Billy the Kid are Fall River and The Magnificent Seven.

The Institute, based on a Stephen King story, recently wrapped up its freshman season, as did Godfather of Harlem season 4 in June. Let the Devil In is halfway through its run as a limited series. While From hasn’t been on the air since November 2024, it’s proven to be a successful show for MGM+.

Billy the Kid‘s climb up the streaming charts suggests that fans are re-watching past episodes to prepare for the final season, a trend that often occurs in the weeks leading up to a TV show’s return.

While viewers enjoy Blyth’s show, critics have never been as enamored. The first season only has a 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes, whereas the Popcornmeter (audience score) is at 83%. Fans loved the second season even more, giving it a 92% on the Popcornmeter, with the average audience score for the series as a whole standing at 88%.

Our Take On Billy The Kid Climbing MGM+ Streaming Chart

MGM+, formerly Epix, has never been a prominent cable network or streaming service. As a result, its shows tend to get overlooked, even when they receive positive reviews from critics and/or fans. It’s disappointing that a show like Billy the Kid, which viewers love, has been underrated across its short run on the air.

Billy the Kid’s story has been ripe for so many storytelling opportunities over the years, including the 1941 film Billy the Kid, 1973’s Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (starring Kris Kristofferson and Bob Dylan), and 2019’s The Kid.

If Blyth’s adaptation of the outlaw’s story had been released by a major streaming service, such as Netflix or Hulu, or even a cable network like HBO, it likely would have garnered a lot more attention over the past few years.

At the very least, the current MGM+ Top 10 chart proves that fans are excited for the return of Billy the Kid, and, hopefully, viewers are satisfied with how the series ends.

Billy the Kid season 3 premieres Sunday, September 28 at 9 p.m. EDT on MGM+.
