Actors vs. Real Historical Figures
Netflix has brought in a host of talented actors to portray the historical figures of the Guinness family in House of Guinness. Set in the 19th century, this historical drama series will follow the famed family behind the still-booming Guinness brewing company. House of Guinness is created by Steven Knight.
The Guinnesses did more than popularize the Irish stout. Sir Benjamin Guinness, 1st Baronet, who originally purchased St. James’s Gate Brewery in 1759, became the wealthiest man in Ireland through the export of beer and other goods. When he died in 1868, his empire was left to his children, and this is where Netflix’s House of Guinness will pick up.
The central characters of House of Guinness will be Benjamin Guinness’ four children, each of whom is based on an actual historical figure. The Netflix series has also added a mix of supporting characters, some based on real people, while others have been created to enhance the story. Regardless, each is portrayed by a phenomenal actor.

O’Shea plays Benjamin Lee Guinness, the second son of Sir Benjamin Guinness. He was born in 1842 and passed away in 1900, and it appears that he was somewhat less involved in philanthropy and the Guinness brewing company than his siblings. Still, this historical figure will play a prominent part in Netflix’s House of Guinness.
