Abbott Elementary Season 5 Features Phillies Game Cameo
Abbott Elementaryseason 5 will feature the grade school crew at a Philadelphia Phillies game. Creator and star Quinta Brunson teased at San Diego Comic-Con that filming at a live sports event was soon to take place for an episode, and now it’s happened.
Deadline reports the cast were at the August 28 game at Citizens Bank Park where the Phillies faced off against the Braves. Their appearance was put in motion by MLB Studios, which released the following statement:
As big fans of the series, MLB Studios initiated outreach to Warner Brothers and subsequently the Phillies to get the shooting process started. Collaboration between MLB Studios, the Phillies and the show commenced to shoot a bottle episode on-location at a Phillies game, with a goal of ensuring authenticity and access to the field.
A picture of the cast with Phillie Phanatic has also been shared, giving away which characters will attend the game. From left to right: Gregory, Janine, Jacob, Barbara, Melissa, Ava’s love interest O’shon, Mr. Johnson, and Ava.
What The Phillies Cameo Means For Abbott Elementary
Filming live at a game is another feather in Abbott Elementary‘s cap. The ABC hit has a 99% Rotten Tomatoes score because the series not only delivers comedic and compelling storytelling, but it’s also must-watch television. The comedy has been steadily building up its sports presence over the years.
Gritty made an appearance in season 2, Eagles players Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce, and Brandon Graham showed up for career day in season 3, and now the Phillies have joined the party. Based on MLB Studios’ statement, Abbott fans are in for a treat.
Due to the nature of these bottle episodes, which are filmed in a single location, the Phillies game will be prominent. Past sports appearances on the series were short segments at the beginning or end of an episode. However, in this case, the story has been built around the match-up against the Braves. The show had access to the field, which means players may also make cameos.
