For Good Soundtrack Release Date & New Songs Revealed

Wicked lit up the pop culture zeitgeist last year, featuring what is surely the hottest sing-along soundtrack this side of Mamma Mia! Fans have patiently waited for news on the much-anticipated follow-up, Wicked: For Good, as well as confirmation on when the soundtrack will arrive. We finally have confirmation that the soundtrack will drop the same day as the film, on November 21.

Excitingly, it’s also now confirmed that the second installment of the film adaptation features an expanded soundtrack, including two never-before-heard new songs written by the Oscar-winning Stephen Schwartz himself, who composed the original musical. There is a new solo performance by Cynthia Erivo titled “No Place Like Home,” and an accompanying solo for Ariana Grande titled “Girl in the Bubble.”

Additionally, fans will be served up a treat in the form of another unreleased song that hasn’t previously been heard outside of the theater. “The Wicked Witch of the East” is part of the original stage musical, though it was never actually included on the Broadway cast recordings. Its new rendition on the upcoming soundtrack is sung by Marissa Bode, Erivo, and Ethan Slater.

Otherwise, Wicked fanatics might already be familiar with many of the songs featured on the soundtrack, as Wicked: For Good covers the second act of the beloved original musical production. Wicked: The Musical proved a worldwide hit since debuting in San Francisco in 2003 (opening on Broadway at the Gershwin Theater in October that same year).

When And Where You Can Get The Wicked For Good Soundtrack

The soundtrack is now available for preordering, whether you want to grab a physical edition or otherwise pre-save it on Spotify or any of the other music streamers. It will drop on a bunch of formats that include CD and double vinyl (for all the physical collectors out there), while Target, Amazon, Walmart, and Barnes and Noble will all sell exclusive versions.

“I’m especially happy that the soundtrack album for Wicked: For Good has so much new music on it,” Schwartz said in a statement provided to Hollywood Reporter.

“In addition to two brand new songs, there is a lot that’s new in several other existing songs. Not only listeners coming to the score for the first time, but long-time fans of the original Broadway cast album, will have a great deal to discover.”

Schwartz previously dropped hints that new songs might be in the mix for the film’s second part. “They were written because they were necessary for the storytelling. It’s why there isn’t a new song in the first movie because we didn’t need one,” he told Hollywood Reporter this year.

Alongside these new tracks, Wicked: For Good also features some of the original musical’s biggest moments. This includes the song sung by Glinda (played by Grande) that kicks off the musical’s second act (and presumably the start of the second film), “Thank Goodness / I Couldn’t Happier.” Elphaba’s (played by Erivo) biggest moment is “No Good Deed,” while the pair join to duet on the titular “For Good.” Check out the full tracklist below.

Wicked Featured At The Oscars This Year, And Fans Can’t Wait For More

Wicked: For Good is the much-anticipated second part of director Jon M. Chu’s cinematic adaptation. His first installment, Wicked, proved one of the biggest cinematic releases from 2024, pulling in $757 million worldwide and earning 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Erivo, and Best Supporting Actress for Grande.

Wicked didn’t end up taking home the bigger awards, and the film was actually not eligible for the Best Original Song nomination due to all the film’s songs originating from the Wicked Broadway musical. However, the film was awarded Oscars both for Best Costume Design (for Paul Tazewell) and Best Production Design (for Lee Sandeles).

The most exciting part for Wicked fans was the elaborate three-song medley that opened the ceremony, featuring a few unexpected musical choices. Grande opened with “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (a wildcard from the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz), while Erivo performed “Home” from the 1974 Broadway musical The Wiz. The duo then joined for “Defying Gravity.”
