ABC’s New Hit Show Solves Major Problem Wutg Latest Trend
ABC is quietly rewriting the rules when it comes to scheduling with a new trend, specifically with the actors starring in one of the network’s biggest hits. As ABC gears up for a new season of television, viewers are preparing to see some of their favorite stars back on screen, including the stars of High Potential, which will begin its sophomore season this fall.
With Kaitlin Olson doing double duty with High Potential and the long-running FX series It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, the star has broken the mold when it comes to actor scheduling. Traditionally, if an actor is attached to a TV series, their availability is generally limited to that show and whatever they can fit into their time during the hiatus, unless specific circumstances arise.
As High Potential returns for its second season, another star will be pulling double duty this year, this time with another ABC project. The network will be rebooting Scrubs, which ran from 2001-2009. While Scrubs was originally on NBC for the majority of its initial run, the series moved to ABC for its final two seasons, and will return with a High Potential star attached.
Kaitlin Olson & Judy Reyes Are Both Starring In Other Network Shows Alongside High Potential
Reyes Will Reprise Her Role As Carla Espinosa In Scrubs
As a cast member on both High Potential and It’s Always Sunny, Olson has set a great new precedent that will allow Judy Reyes to return to another beloved role. Reyes, who played Carla Espinosa in Scrubs from 2001 to 2008, departed the show during its last season on the air, but will be returning for the series’ upcoming reboot.
As a cast member on High Potential, many were concerned that the scheduling conflict would prevent Reyes from coming back to the show and reprising her role. Thankfully, Olson’s time on High Potential opened a door for the rest of the ensemble to make some major changes when it comes to how much they work. Both will be pulling double duty together this season.
ABC’s Compromises Have Shown It’s Possible To Get Around Network TV’s Scheduling Conflicts
The Long-Held System Seems To Be Growing Flexible
As ABC moves into a new era of programming, the network has seemed to crack the code when it comes to providing more availability for their actors in order to support multiple projects. For decades, it felt impossible to loop actors into projects they may be perfect for or passionate about because their schedules made it too difficult to navigate.
Thankfully, ABC has managed to figure out a solution to the issue, allowing actors like Olson and Reyes to work on multiple projects at once. With the ability to move through an old system with a new outlook is exciting for not only the Scrubs reboot, but the network at large. ABC’s been able to create space for actors, catering to their viewers.
