The Next Generation of Rock Royalty

Throughout the entertainment industry, there is hardly a shortage of talented families, parents who pass their talents down to their children who dominate in a similar field. It’s probably the most common in the film and television industries, when a famous actor’s son or daughter starts acting from a young age, too, and becomes the next big thing over time.
That said, the music industry is no different; there are a ton of family affairs across genres, and even within the same bands: The Allman Brothers Band, The Beach Boys, AC/DC, Heart—the list goes on. Perhaps the most underrated family in music today is the Hewson family, with none other than Paul David Hewson as their patriarch, otherwise known as Bono.
While Bono’s daughter, Eve Hewson, has put together a decent catalog of roles within the film and TV industries, his son, Elijah, has been playing guitar and singing lead vocals for the band Inhaler since age 15. Hewson’s sound is definitely more modern than his father’s in U2, but he is starting to dominate the alternative music scene in an eerily similar fashion.
Inhaler’s Discography Crushes Any Potential Doubt Surrounding Hewson’s Genetic Talent
I first learned about Inhaler on recommendation from a friend, who told me the band’s lead singer, Elijah Hewson, was Bono’s son, and that was all I needed to hear to start from the beginning, diving head first into their catalog, which, at the time, consisted of just two albums and a few errant singles.
Being a U2 fanatic, it took me all of 30 seconds of track one on the band’s debut studio album, It Won’t Always Be Like This, to fall in love with them. After falling into the rabbit hole, I played a few tracks for my parents, fellow U2 fans, and both of them responded with “He sounds just like Bono!”
Aside from the uncanny musical resemblance the younger Hewson bares to his father, he and his band have absolutely cultivated their own unique, modern sound. Many of their singles are catchy, pleasing to the ear, and the fact that they are a young, classic four-piece band really does make Inhaler easy to love.
Elijah Hewson, along with bassist Robert Keating, keyboardist Josh Jenkinson, and drummer Ryan McMahon, released their third studio album, Open Wide, in February of this year. The album release was preceded by four singles: “Your House,” “Open Wide,” “A Question Of You,” and “Billy (Yeah Yeah Yeah).”
Though there were four (fantastic, might I add) singles released before the full album, the greatest introduction to Open Wide is undoubtedly the opening track, “Eddie In The Darkness,” one of the catchier songs throughout their entire body of work, and one which will most definitely become a setlist staple of their September US tour.
Inhaler is embarking on a brief, 11-show tour in the US to promote Open Wide, starting September 13th in Asbury Park, NJ. On September 21st, they are playing at Riot Fest, a music festival in Chicago that boasts headliners such as blink-182, Green Day, Weezer, Jack White, the Sex Pistols, and plenty more.
Coming off the heels of such an electric album at the beginning of the year and playing on the same stage as legends like Jack White, I think it’s safe to say Inhaler is on the rise, and 2025 is certainly their greatest year yet.
