Serj Tankian Announces New Album Covers, Collaborations & Collages Out October 24
Revered System of a Down frontman, Serj Tankian, has announced that he will be releasing a brand-new project this fall. Although this won’t bring System of a Down any closer to becoming a metal band with over 10 albums, it’s a major accomplishment for Tankian. It will undoubtedly showcase exactly why fans enjoy him so much.
Alongside his role performing with System of a Down at various events, Tankian, much like some other artists, is able to juggle multiple career paths. This has led him to a successful solo career, following in the footsteps of musicians such as Ozzy Osbourne. This path has allowed him to explore many sides of his creativity.
This latest release is set to show multiple aspects of Tankian. It will take listeners on a journey that he has somewhat touched on before, but this promises to be even bigger. Plus, he is going to ensure fans can build their excitement for this. Ultimately, it could be one of the most important releases in hi career.
Serj Tankian’s ‘Covers, Collaborations & Collages’ Is On The Way
Just before Halloween, Serj Tankian will release his new album, Covers, Collaborations & Collages, on October 24. Outside his time with System of a Down, he has had a lengthy career, and this record encapsulates much of it. This record will contain previously unreleased tracks, covers, and collaborations, showcasing a wide variety.
The album is set to have 10 tracks. While speaking about what fans can expect in a statement on his website, Tankian had this to say: “I wanted to put out a record of collaborations I haven’t released before, along with covers, which I haven’t done.” When it comes to collaborations, this will be evident on three of the tracks. The artists confirmed to be joining him are Deadmau5, Bic Runga, and Lucas Vidal.
Among the covers on the record, Tankian will tackle the song “When Death Arrives” by Ruben Hakhverdyan. This will fit right in with the thought-provoking tunes that Tankian has tackled over the years. As far as the collage aspect of the record, he offered further insight into what exactly this piece means, saying, “The rest, the collages, are parts that fit the puzzle in the same tone, the same vibe.“
When it comes to the promotion of this record, Tankian has big plans for fans. As the actual release date inches closer, he will continue to put out songs. Additionally, he plans to explain the backstory of each track, which will provide a deeper look into one of the most creative minds in the music industry.
This Album Will Expand Upon Another Serj Tankian EP
Among the many promotions that will take place ahead of the release day for Covers, Collaborations & Collages, one thing fans can do is listen to Serj Tankian’s Foundations EP. The two works will correlate based on the material captured in each. According to Tankian, the idea he had for Foundations is what will be found in his new release: “Similar to Foundations, these are pre-existing archival recordings, some of them from way back.“
Foundations arrived only last year in 2024, so it’s a great look at where Tankian is at during this stage of his career. It is clear that Tankian is making the music that makes him happy. This is all fans could want, as artists who are able to find true inspiration can give it their all without having to settle.
This album will add to the legacy of Tankian, who has proven over the years to be a true artist. Beyond just music, he has tackled many different mediums, such as painting. Especially recently, in the 2020s, Tankian has really worked hard to put out as much work as possible, which has been phenomenal for fans.
He shows no signs of slowing down, and Covers, Collaborations & Collages will elevate him even further. From working alongside video games to making music and creating art, Tankian has proven he can do it all. Perhaps this will even lead to him doing more covers in the future, bringing to light some tremendous songs.
Everyone Is Waiting On A New System Of A Down Album
While Serj Tankian’s newest album is sure to excite fans, there is an album yet to be made that many continue to wait for. This, of course, would be a new record from System of a Down. It has now been 20 years since they released something new. So far, nothing has materialized, but their fans haven’t lost hope.
It was 1998 when they released their self-titled debut. Following this, they would release four more albums, including two in 2005. Although it seemed like they would stay on a consistent pace, they would go on a hiatus after that. Even when their reunion happened, a new album never emerged for multiple reasons.
Even after decades of waiting, fans continue to hope as each member puts out music. Now, if they could just do it together again, it would be one of the most anticipated releases ever in metal. The good news is the band continues to play together, with major shows with Deftones happening in September.
If System of a Down never puts out another record, it would be disappointing. However, even without it, their legacy is cemented as one of the most entertaining bands of all time. Nonetheless, with fans continuing to wait patiently, as they have for decades, they can enjoy Serj Tankian’s latest work, Covers, Collaborations & Collages, later this year.
