KPop Demon Hunters Keeps Breaking Records Faster Than Anyone Expected
Whenever anyone begins to doubt the lasting success of KPop Demon Hunters, the film seems to find yet another record to break just to prove their worth.
It’s rare for a film, let alone a film released on streaming, to last so long in the cultural vacuum these days. Even so, KPop Demon Hunters holds its place firmly at the top of Netflix’s own Top 10 and the Billboard charts over two months after its initial release.
With a couple of sequels and a live-action adaptation already in the works, it’s clear that this film is here to stay. It’s also clear that stories about young women, artists, and, more specifically, K-Pop, are welcome and enjoyed by an incredibly wide audience.
KPop Demon Hunters Bests Saturday Night Fever
As KPop Demon Hunters continues to reach new heights and achieve unique milestones, it reminds film and music lovers alike just how much art like this resonates.
Saturday Night Fever was released in 1978 and boasts an iconic soundtrack that was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004. This soundtrack went on to have three simultaneous entries in the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100. Now, over 45 years later, KPop Demon Hunters is the first soundtrack to follow suit.
At the time of writing, “Golden” sits comfortably at No. 1 on the Hot 100, while their fictional rivals, the Saja Boys, sit at No. 4 and No. 5 with “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop.” The public have always appreciated a good movie musical.
Although these two films are completely different, it seems likely that the music of KPop Demon Hunters will hold a legacy not unlike that of Saturday Night Fever and other music-centered films that paved the way. It’s just a matter of how many records the fictional K-Pop groups have left in them to break.
